Destin, I'm sorry, but it is well accepted within the scientific community that a) climate change is occuring (and yes it is a cycle, but one that will be devastating to humans on this planet if it continues at the present rate) and b) the "industrial" age certainly DID contribute a good deal to it, with its pollution, occuring well into the 80's, and even now.

Again, this is NOT a political controversy, it is scientific fact. The only reason you guys are bringing it up is because you hate Al Gore. If Bush were to get on the bandwagon, every single one of you would rethink your positions, and then be card carrying greenies, providing of course that the Republican party endorsed it. Sheesh, cut me a break.

Yes, we've done a lot to curb pollution over the last two decades. Yes, the atmosphere and earth are both in better shape because of that. But that doesn't change the fact that the Northwest Passage is open for travel for the first time in man's history on earth and that the ice is melting at a much greater rate than scientists first thought. Bash Al Gore if you'd like, but don't bash him because he brought a problem to the forefront and gave it international attention, whether the criticism of the film (and him) is good or bad. S

laughing stock...

Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia gives what, for many Canadians, is a surprising assessment: "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."

Carter does not pull his punches about Gore's activism, "The man is an embarrassment to US science and its many fine practitioners, a lot of whom know (but feel unable to state publicly) that his propaganda crusade is mostly based on junk science."

In April sixty of the world's leading experts in the field asked Prime Minister Harper to order a thorough public review of the science of climate change, something that has never happened in Canada. Considering what's at stake - either the end of civilization, if you believe Gore, or a waste of billions of dollars, if you believe his opponents - it seems like a reasonable request.

Again, this is a piece of political propaganda promoting an agenda that many people think would most likely be economically harmful to the United States, based on science that is questionable. Yet everybody is getting alarmed about it as if it were indisputable truth.

Yep, there are always cycles of weather and that is what's happening now. Gore is a laughing stock with phony awards that are meaningless and NO respect.

Destin, a big part of the reason that there will be a study in Canada on climate change is that all of a sudden there's the Northwest Passage, AND an uncharted, and previously not existing, island off the coast of Greenland. Canada will reap the benefits of climate changeif they play their cards right.

Global Warming? I don't believe, and will never believe, that it is the correct term for what is occuring. But when Vermont doesn't get a killing frost before 10/17 and the Northwest Passage is open for the first time in history, I do believe it should be called climate change.

Al Gore made a movie that gained him some modicum of fame, and resurrected his tarnished image. But more important, he made people think about the issue. Whether you agree or don't agree (and those who don't believe that there is such a thing as climate change really need to look at the history of the earth), he made it a debatable subject. S

"The easiest way to get masses to give up power is fear. Fear the Earth is going to end, that our behavior is killing ourselves, that God will not forgive a baby of original sin without baptism!"

You forgot "there is a terrorist under every bed."

Scotty I totally agree. My last statement of my previous post said that those who believe that global warming is real do not adhere to their beliefs. This definitely includes the Hollywood "go green" personalities.

The government at the state level and local levels in California are mandating businesses to "go green". Yet, the legislators parade around in private planes and they travel excessively - even though they don't need to.
