That's why in all scientific studies you have the "null" hypothesis and the "alternate" hypothesis. In this case, "hypothesis" is substituted for "theory".

I have followed this "issue" since the 1970s when I was in graduate school. For nearly 30 years I resisted jumping on the bandwagon, for all the reasons others have stated here, i.e., the Earth has warmed & cooled many times in the past without human causes. I have finally yielded to the overwhelming evidence. While it is true that Earth has warmed much warmer and cooled much cooler many times before, never before in the geological record has it warmed at a rate even approaching the warming rate we are experiencing now. And the correlations between increased warming rate and carbon emissions into the atmosphere are so strong as to be frightening. Yes, I know that correlation does not necessarily mean causation. But the scientific data from all over the world has been so consistent and so strong that I personally think it would be foolhardy to ignore it. After 30+ years of skepticism, I am sufficiently alarmed now to urge policymakers to take action to slow down the warming. Jim

In the 70s i remember it was "global cooling" now it's "global warming" 20 years from now it's going to be "global climate stagnation". It's all bullshit. Man can not significantly impact the climate. Jim, Just because egore was VP means nothing. The nobel prize lost it's pull with me when they gave it to arafat.
