The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said. U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies. About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said. "There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said. India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.

Actually jack...you speak for no one. 9 of the top 10 cities and all states in the top 10 in per capita gun crimes and deaths have CCW laws and lax gun regulations.....that is a fact I described the idiot method the NRA uses to come to the ridiculous figure of 2.5 million crimes a year "prevented by guns, that is a fact. I gave you the facts, what you believe of not make no difference to anyone outside the NRA cult echo chamber

User Details are only visible to members.	I did find a seemingly unbiased estimate of 50,000 uses of firearms in self defense in a year. This includes "unsuccessful" use of guns, off-duty police actions, and who knows what else. Presumably also your drunks around a bonfire, knuckleheads in traffic, etc.

Given that, how many thwarted rapes, robberies, car jacking’s etc are equal to one murder with a gun. That is open to debate." One of your own what? You really accept numbers based on who is giving them to you? I'd think the bigger debate is whether the unsuccessful uses of guns in self defense offset the successful ones. It's many times more likely your gun will be stolen before you can use it, cause you to be killed in the crime, or even have your own gun used against you. I acknowledge this a very general and averaged "you". If you're Dirty Harry, you'll stop crimes right and left, and the bad guy will never get the drop on you. Most are not Dirty Harry, though. In fact, no one is. The perp always has the upper hand.

Does that mean any particular figure is certainly uninflated?” A truly accurate figure is somewhat elusive based on your methods but I am far more inclined to consider information from those without an agenda to sell or those with a message less driven by money or politics. I feel the closest number to be somewhere in the middle of the 200K to 300K. Even if you only accept the number from one of your own it still sits at 100k a year. I can't prove that the numbers and info I quoted are correct, but I can confirm that the information is from the crime tables offered on the web directly by the FBI; tables 7, 13 and 20 and others. YOU SAID TO LOOK THERE and I did. It proves you wrong. It's not my data. It's not the NRA's data. It's not from the RNC or DNC... It's from the FBI. PP, you have lost this. It's OK, you were just wrong. I am glad you suggested I look at the FBI tables. Now suck up your BS, New Jersey, 'I am always right and if I'm not I will talk louder and just insist I'm right.' attitude. No wonder South Park did an episode about 'Jersey.'
