IMHO, there is no question that most minorities get differential treatment in this country.

There was a report in the newspaper a couple of days ago that blacks receive less pain medication in hospitals than whites. And on and on...

That being said, I don't know that we can legislate equality.

I personally think we should have legal marriage for whichever humans want it. Having lived in a poly relationship for a couple of years, I have no problem with two women and a man, two men and a woman, two men, two women, or any other permutations.

I think the big issue here is benefits. Since I also believe in universal health care, this becomes a non-issue for me.

As torta said, let them all be as miserable as the rest of us...;-)

I'm reading the post below and it amazes me. For one thing, I have a son who is gay (and conservative!). The gay rights movement is not about freedom of sexuality; it is, as Lucky pointed out, extra rights. This country is fragmentized by special groups - mine included. Everyone in this site is represented by some special group (whether you know it or not) that is lobbying for extra rights or privileges.

The most pressing issue with the gay community is: the privilege of getting married - Tort was absolutely correct here.

Joe D - your comments are similar to the same argument against civil rights. I have too many examples to fit in this post. So to put it bluntly, your comments are absurd and incorrectly stated.

Claire The last time I remember some of them got in trouble, the GI's involved posed for nude pics in a gay magazine. The way the military was when I was in. Even if a straight girl posed in a mag they would have been in trouble. Hell I got in trouble once because some idiot left a porn mag in one of the orders of the day binders on one of my posts. A full bird found it during an inspection, and through a hissy fit. So sometimes it's not even a gay issue.

Naww Claire, the issue isn't gays....just lazy people. If your in a environment that is composed of production nobody cares who you fuck when your off work. They just care about getting the work done. There is no room for playing games when there are saws and knives involved. It's all about the work. And there is a lot of Gays in the military here, everybody knows it, nobody cares. It's really no big issue anymore unless they make it one by doing something that makes them stand out.

LOL Claire...hell no he handled the supermarkets meat where he and I worked for a time. I wouldn't eat anything he touched. I actually prefer chicken and fish to beef anyway. But that was one of the problems with him, he was always trying to make an excuse to touch, his fellow employees. After I moved to a different location, a redneck butcher decked him. Was initially suspended then it was dropped due to the many complaints he had for touching employees. He quit soon after this incident.

Claire that's true, we have some friends who are Mormon, I bet they would be burned at the stake if the congregation found out. We don't go to church much anymore, but when we did it never came up in conversation.

Claire The one butcher that I worked with was always running his mouth about discrimination constantly, but really we didn't like him because he was gay. We didn't like him because he was lazy, run his mouth all the time, and a asshole. And that had nothing to do with his sexuality, though his constant complaints to human resources made it an issue.

Claire I agree with that, but that small group that's is advocating rights, and it's probably a very small group. Is claiming to speak for them all, sometimes the majority need to speak out for themselves. The only right that I see being held from them is marriage. And I know I'm going to piss some off with this statement. But I don't care if they want to get married, let them. But they also have to deal with the responsibilities of it, and I think they want to do that. Now the employers probably don't agree with me as that means they have to provide them with benefits. But I don't think that would make a tremendous problem, unless you have a business with all gays, and then I would think that business would support them being allowed to be married. I can see some government concerns as that would make them open to receiving certain social security benefits.
