Romney lost this debate. Period. At weeks end it will be clear what exactly that has wrought, right now the polls are literally 'unbelievable'.

User Details are only visible to members.	Well the problem with a zinger is if it can be debunked it will hurt the candidate, and there is two weeks to debunk it. As as been stated and commonly known horses are used in Afghanistan, and bayonets are still issued and used. Obama is not Reagan and he can't pull off these zingers, in the long run it backfires on him.

" Oh I know, and as SED has stated, Obama's entire campaign is nothing more than a smear with a few "silvers of truth" sprinkled on top. But thats the playbook when you have NO record to run on. However, I still can't believe how many will still defend this yo-yo.

FJ, it seems or at least according to Slate, they are indeed used though scaled back: The Marines aren’t the only branch of the military to equip its soldiers with bayonets. The Army issues the M9 bayonet knife, which has been in use since the 1980s, but troops have moved away from the detachable knives in recent years. In 2010, the Army began to scale back on bayonet drills in favor of calisthenics, perhaps a wise move given that the soldiers rarely carry bayonets on their rifles, and since the last U.S. bayonet charge was in 1951. Others, however, have still found use for the bayonet charge in recent years. Just last month a British soldier was honored for a bayonet charge on the Taliban that he led in 2011. This charge was reminiscent of another British bayonet charge in Basra, Iraq, in 2004. In 2011, Col. Muammar Gaddafi was also reportedly killed by a bayonet stab to the rear.

User Details are only visible to members.	The whole wide world acknowledges that the President's entire campaign has been one long personal attack. He has accused Romney of being greedy. He has accused Romney of not caring about people. He has accused Romney of killing the wives of workers with cancer. He has accused Romney over and over and over of being a liar. Obama's whole campaign has been one long smear.

User Details are only visible to members.	Yes, bayonets are still carried and used, to what degree I don't know or care. Horses were used in Afghanistan. I'm amazed at the number of folks claiming an Obama win based on that one liner. It came off as a cheap shot to make Romney sound out of touch, and obviously worked among the mentally challenged, or the likes of the OWS crowd. Oh wait thats basically one in the same.

User Details are only visible to members.	M I don't believe they are issued anymore, or part of training. Combat has changed so much since WW2 that hand to hand does not happen like it used to. During the world wars pistols were not issued to enlisted, now they are standard issue and used in CQC(close quarters combat). The current battle rifle is not really a good platform for hand to hand, it has a short stock without the length or weight for a but stroke, and bayonets affect accuracy, and get in the way in clearing buildings. Our public would never stand for the losses in infantry charges.

In 2003, the Marine Corps replaced its standard-issue bayonet with a longer, sharper model, the OKC-3S. The new model, designed by New York’s Ontario Knife Co., was also more effective when brandished as a hand knife—not to mention more ergonomically correct. Perhaps more vitally, the blades were also better able to pierce body armor, a concern particular to modern warriors. More than 120,000 bayonets were commissioned to supply one to each Marine, at an estimated price of $36.35 each, or $4,362,000 total. In addition to potential use in hand-to-hand combat, bayonets are said to be useful for keeping prisoners under control and for “poking an enemy to see whether he is dead.”
