"Nukes aren't cheap. Getting rid of spent fuel continues to be a problem. "

yeah. they told us when they built the one up here in the northwest, in the mid 70's. (where we used to have the cheapest power in the country, but thatnks to haliburton we don't now, but that's a different debate)..But they told us when they built it , power would be so cheap you could barely read it on your meter. well, twenty yrs later it was closed down because it was more expensive then hydro power.

When will people understand when gas is 25 dollars a gallon is that what it takes. Well hell let's just put a 20 a gallon gas tax on. That ought to take car of the budget.

.02 cents a mile is a lot cheaper than .16 cents a mile. Why is everybody screaming to get off of oil when it is NO PROBLEM. But to change that many cars we must have the electricity. We must have more nuclear power plants. Newer and more efficient. The sooner libs get their head out of the sand the sooner it can get done.

There is a nuclear generator within 2 hours of my location. Can't be sure but I would say it has been in operation for 10-15 years. In the last 2 years, we have also experienced roughly a 200% increase in the price of electricity. Nukes aren't cheap. Getting rid of spent fuel continues to be a problem.

Point blank we need the drilling at home to allow breathing space to build new nuke plants and convert to electric transportation. And if you think 3 mile island is a point to make, it is a point to make for new plants. Would you rather have nuke power with old outdated plants pushed to the limit, or coast with new strong safer power. Think safety and self reliance. The answer is electric!!!!

"You forgot Three Mile Island? How's 'bout we drop one in your neck of the woods?" ================================================ We do have one in our back yard. Not a lick of problems, know many of the people working there. Had one in our back yard living in the keys. No problems even with the hurricanes. And I'll bet there is one withing an hour to 2 hours of your location. 3 mile island made nuke plants much more safe. And are constantly testing, not taking anything for granted. They have the most stringent testing of any industry. They intentionally do testing until they find a mistake. The intention is to find mistakes not false perfects. Oil dependency could have been no more, but not without nuclear plants. Electric cars have been around for a very LONG time. They work and work well. But they have to be charged. An electric car can operate on .02 per mile. Almost all cars and light trucks can be converted to electric. And for most people commutes would be possible. But companies and businesses would need charging stations for those commuters that traveled outside the range. This charging would be during peak hours, and we need the power to make it possible. Our salvation it HERE, and has been at our grasp. It is odd the ones screaming global warming EGore, are the very ones who are the blocking force, of a clean air America.

Desty, W tried but once (and was refused by a republican lead congress) to license new nuke plants. You forgot Three Mile Island? How's 'bout we drop one in your neck of the woods? EVERYONE including the API acknowleges the "drill here" approach is BS. The oil industry has neglected the Alaskan pipeline to the point that it is UTTERLY useless AND "W" for all his homeland security BS has failed to secure it from threat. The republicans would rather spend the money on a fence around the country, prevent gays from marrying, adopting english as our official language and guarding women's vaginas than deal with either of these two real problems.

*** just like the stimulus package, it worked for a month. but now, we are going deeper in a recession. ***

The stimulus packages are still going on, there was a bump on the first day when all the e-filers got paid.

*** why is gas $4.50 a gallon? cuz corperate america outsourced everything.***

It is foreign demand and a weak dollar combining for high prices on the spot market. China exports to other places besides the US. It also manufactures for domestic demand. Should the US have a stronger manufacturing base? Yes it should. Why doesn't it? Unions. India has some call centers and some tech outsourcing. The call centers don't do enough to raise the price of oil or to weaken the dollar, the tech jobs also have some effect. India was going to develop its economy at some point and it will be a good thing to have some presence there so American companies can sell their software there, just like Japanese car models being assembled in the US. Enough to raise gas prices to $4.50 a gallon, probably not on its own. It is a bunch of things including not being able to drill for oil off the coast of Malibu so that movie stars won't have their costal view spoiled by rigs.

*** what did the Canadians ever do to you? *** Canada is a good neighbor. They helped get some potential hostages out of Iran in 1979 and they took loads of diverted aircraft on 9/11/2001. Gander airport was completely full of 747s and the people there took passengers into their homes because that was all that was available. For that, we can overlook AIDS, and SARS, E-coli, and the general disrespect we get from America Jr. On the other hand, there is the other border. The one that makes it hard for teenagers to get jobs in Southern California because the menial jobs are taken by adults.

*** California's public education system is not failing, although some schools are in worse shape than others. *** True.. good schools and bad, depending on the local population's committment to education. As a whole, the CA public schools rank below other states that spend less per pupil.

*** California has two of the finest public universities in the country--UCLA and Berkeley *** Like many "public" universities, these are essentially private schools that get some state funds. Like many higher tier public universities, they really like to admit out of state students who pay the full cost of their education. The entire UC system is an elitist mess that is supposed to admit the top 12.5% of California HS grads but instead grudgingly allows the to 4% into Santa Cruz, Irvine, and Riverside.

*** But still, no one has a clue on how to bring down the deficit. that's where it all starts. ***

John McCain is for smaller government and for eliminating farm subsidies and pork barrel earmarks.

A lawsuit filed in the United States District Court of Minnesota February 11, 2008 alleges democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama engaged in illegal drug use and sexual activity with another man in 1999.

The suit, brought by Larry Sinclair, alleges three named defendants have actively engaged in internet intimidation and have illegally investigated his personal life. The suit names Obama, along with the Democratic National Committee and Democratic political consultant David Axelrod, as defendants.

The suit claims the defendant’s actions are in violation of Sinclair’s First Amendment freedom of speech. Sinclair goes on to claim he attempted on numerous occasions to contact Obama through his campaign headquarters to come forward regarding the allegations.

After claiming his requests were ignored, Sinclair says in the suit he contacted numerous media outlets with his story. Those outlets, the suit claims, refused to even pose questions to Obama about the alleged incident.

Sinclair then took his story to You Tube in the form of a video in which he lists the allegations against the then Illinois state representative
