ZZ Nowhere in the Second Amendment is it stated that citizens are guaranteed the right to own paramilitary assault weapons What a crock and it is time to take off the PC gloves. The second amendment is all about the individual RTKABA. The militia were individual citizens and the weapons they were talking about were the modern weapons of warfare of that time. The citizens rights do not depend on there being an organized militia, they are the militia. They have been and will be organized as situations demand. If you eliminated the citizens weapons now how could they reorganize in the future when needed. The government can not be trusted to store or have sole possession of weapons because they may be the tyranny that this organized militia will be opposing. As per our constitution I recognize that our citizens are all powerful, your entire line of thought points to an opinion that that our federal government is all powerful. You would have our second amendment rights eliminated from the individual but have the right to bear arms maintained by government. That is the definition of socialism and or communism is it not??? I have heard the argument that the National Guard constitutes this citizen militia that is spoken of in our constitution. It does not. The national guard can be instantly nationalized and in that instant is a part of our nations military and at that instant the members of that Guard unit no longer have all of their individual rights and they most defiantly do not have the right to oppose our own Tyrannical government that would be the enemy. The National Guard argument fails miserably and collapses when you know and understand that they are always a potential tool of the federal government and the individuals in the guard have absolutely no choice in the matter. Within our constitutional rule of law way of governing ourselves, the constitution must be amended or changed for the people to loose rights included in the bill of rights and all of the additional amendments. That has not happened and the will of 38 states to do so does not exist today. Sorry but you are stuck with the second amendment. By the way the constitution does not say that your first amendment rights allow for you to use a microphone when you speak, or for your words to be broadcast for millions to hear. Words have instigated the death of many more people than firearms have. Hitler's loud and well broadcast propaganda speeches come to mind. He too wanted to disarm the people, actually he did.....

This line of thought can only conclude that we can own and possess nothing more modern than muskets. Single shot and time to react...... How real is that. Not at all.....

The constitution was written and does exist. The militia were individual citizens and individual citizens do exist today. Hard to argue against that fact. The weapons that the authors of our constitution were talking about and included were the modern weapons of warfare at the time. Another fact that you have to agree with. The sole purpose of the second amendment was to provide a for an armed response from the citizens against the tyranny of enemies foreign and domestic. It is actually pretty clear. The words have been studied by the best linguists and historians in our country. The overwhelming conclusions do not meet with your views on this matter. You have a political view that is not based on the words of our constitution but on how you want it to be. I am all for restricting crazy people and violent people from owning or possessing firearms but I am no more willing to give up my second amendment rights than you are to give up your first amendment rights. The SCOTUS has not seen things your way either and there has been no indication that this will change. They have set much precedent that the RTKABA is an individual right. You are going to have to live with this.

Assault weapon ownership should be made part of the domestic terrorism prevention duties of the state's National Guard.

Mental health professionals know that certain conditions are not currently fixable. There are just medications, and people will go off their meds. Most mentally ill people aren't holding a gun at this very moment, but most of them probably know where they can get one. Some guns can effectively be used to kill a lot more people than other guns can, before the assailant is disarmed. These are the ones that should be controlled.
