These debts are not including federal entitlement programs: Medicare and Social Security. The Obama Administration keeps pushing the bullshit that the debt ceiling must increase, yet, Medicare and SS for instance are not entitlements, they’re obligations. Not raising the debt limit does not mean defaulting on the national debt or that the US’s credit rating will be downgraded. The Federal government incoming tax revenue totals $200 billion a month, certainly plenty to continue paying the creditors. Worst case scenario, should the government refuse to pay its debt, the creditors can always take the government to court [Court of Federal Claims]. And since when is the President allowed unilaterally raise the debt ceiling? Isn’t Congress the only entity that has the power to borrow money on the credit of the United States? Below is a list of some of what we pay for, it’s a tiny number of some of the most insane entitlements. Add to it, the free cell phone that over six million people have, free utilities etc.. User Details are only visible to members.	Foreign aid (depending on which part of it) is a necessity. It can be adjusted, it can be revamped, reduced etc... but it can not be done away with. This is 2013, not 1013.

Sed the way i see it all the programs you listed are noble programs, But none of them are vital to the survival of our nation and should be put on hold until we can afford them. along with a number of other programs including foreign aid. i don't know about anyone else, but when i am broke i cut out unnecessary spending and concentrate on the basic needs.

Harry Reid 2006 “If my Republican friends believe that increasing our debt by almost $800 billion today and more than $3 trillion over the last five years is the right thing to do, they should be upfront about it. They should explain why they think more debt is good for the economy. How can the Republican majority in this Congress explain to their constituents that trillions of dollars in new debt is good for our economy? How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors? They should explain this. Maybe they can convince the public they’re right. I doubt it. So it is a tax and I am receiving 'welfare' in the form of Social Security payments. Obama, wants our Debt to go as high as he can make it so when interest rates go up we can't pay the interest and default. HE WINS.
