"or calling a guy who tried cocaine as a teen a "Cokehead" 30 years later (oh wait, that's another thread, isn't it?) "......Who was the coke head when they were a teenager?

It's a 30-second Wikipedia lookup to note that Robert Byrd was nothing resembling a "Grand Wizard", the title given to the National leader of the KKK (think Republican Gubernatorial/Senator candidate David Duke) - rather he was simply head of the local Matoaka, West Virginia chapter (with the even more ridiculous title of "Exalted Cyclops").
That's quite a difference - sort of like calling your town mayor "President" . . . or calling a guy who tried cocaine as a teen a "Cokehead" 30 years later (oh wait, that's another thread, isn't it?) |

""It has emerged throughout my life to haunt and embarrass me and has taught me in a very graphic way what one major mistake can do to one's life, career, and reputation," Byrd wrote in a new memoir -- "Robert C. Byrd: Child of the Appalachian Coalfields" -- that will be published tomorrow by West Virginia University Press. "....Awwww poor KKK grand wizard.....I feel sooo sorry for him

JNM -
I've come to notice that when right wingers accuse you of "spinning" for offering relevant facts, they're in league with the Midieval Church that was ready to send astronomers like Bruno to the stake for arguing that the universe didn't revolve around the earth. Don't bother them with facts that may dispute their orthodoxy. When you're convinced that you're the center of the universe, everthing else just looks like it's spinning around you. |

Personally, at this stage I've more issue with a Republican leadership who knew about Foley and kept quiet because he was such a cash cow coming from his rich Florida district. Foley is no longer a member of Congress, and presumably no longer has access to the Congressional pages. For his sake, I hope he gets help - pedophilia is a horrible affliction.
What Hastert et al were willing to keep their mouths shut about in order to keep the cash flowing is much more serious a concern, since they're still in positions to hide information that the American public needs to know in order to solicit campaign contributions. |

You mean the man who said:
"I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times . . . and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened." Yeah, it's tough to respect men who won't take responsibility for their actions. |
