Scottyd27, I agree with you up to a point. But at the time selling cotton to England was against "our national interests" (How I hate that phrase!) because of the war of 1812, amongst other things.. Where would "we" be today if the south HAD sold it's cotton w/o tariff?

You wont' end up with another cotton war if you actually REGULATE INTERSTATE COMMERCE.

The civil war started when the central govt illegally told southern states it wasn't allowed to export it's cotton to britian who paid more, that the south had to sell it to the central govt who paid less.

Zing, I'm not interested in assumptions. Annheiser- Busch also AGGRESSIVELY markets to LBGT types. Most billionaires are conservative, true, but are we talking about economically or socially, or the relationship between them?

Ah yes, but when you start to "regulate inter-state commerce" you end up with regions of the country depending on other regions for resources. You'll get another "cotton war."

If he was a true conservative he'd abloish welfare and every other socialist program the govt had.

He'd focus on the core responsiblities of the federal govt.

1. defending and securing our shores and borders

2. Regulate interstate commerce.

3. Coin a common currency.

That pretty much defines the role of the central govt. All other programs should be relagated to the states. If a state wants a welfare program, then it should be that states responsibility to fund it.

Pretty much everything the federal govt does today is extra constitutional.

"Conservatism by its nature calls for smaller government (i.e. less intervention). The greatest domestic contributions of conservatives have been to rein in liberal social programs and keep this country from becoming a nanny-state."

However, discretionary domestic spending under Bush increased at a greater rate than under Clinton.

So is Clinton more conservative than Bush?

The chicoms are not doing better than us. more that 5/8th of it's population are living in poverty.

without out the united states europe would've fallen to communists after ww2. The soviet union would still be around today if it hadn't been for reagan.

Liberals are trying to destroy the constitution. You sound more like a libertarian to me lusty.

Of course i'm more of a libertarian to.
