"Hell it is hard to find any historians who can agree on the issue."

So why do you keep telling us that you're right and we are wrong?

The fact is, a majority of the shaves were sent to, sold in, and living in the south. No matter what small percentage of lovely, Christian, fair-treating, non-abusive or killing southerns owned slaves.

The south was created and sustained by the slave industry. Yes, tree were soaves in the north, as in ALL states. Yes the north had insurance, banks, ship building, and rum making businesses. But, you can not sugar coat it... The south was fighting to preserve their way of life, and this included owning slaves.

Folks..again...don't confuse the story the slavocratic elites bill of goods sold to the southern non slave owning masses with the REALITY that existed

Davis and his inner circle wanted to create an agrarian slavocratic empire stretching from Richmond to Tierra del Fuego, and he knew that could not happen while attached to the United States with a growing group of "radical republicans" and abolitionists. So like most demagogs he sold his semi literate poverty stricken mostly NON slave owning population on a fake bill of goods about "states rights" and 'northern aggression" THAT is why the civil war started. All the rest is rose colored hindsight and conciliatory "reverse political correctness" and revisionist history

Robert this is what you want: Welfare capitalism refers to capitalist economies that include comprehensive social welfare policies in the form of a welfare state, where the welfare state is predominantly financed through taxes levied on privately owned enterprises and/or taxes on income. Alternatively, welfare capitalism refers to the practice of businesses providing welfare services to their employees. Welfare capitalism in this second sense, or industrial paternalism, was centered in industries that employed skilled labor and peaked in the mid-20th century.

Norc:

While yes every great nation has fallen due to internal strife... but that strife has only been caused by a part of the population being unwilling to advance itself mentally to the future... That part is the republican party, that part is the part of this nation which cling to old ideals which are far far outdated.

Capitalism cannot compete unless the wealthy choose to provide, they aren't, so capitalism will fail in this nation... What replaces it and the shape of the nation is yet to be determined... But if this nation subcomes to a second civil war... I doubt that you will enjoy the nation that rises from the second civil war.

Every great nation in history has fallen apart from internal strife. We are in no way exempt from repeating this history. We are great because of our constitution and rule of law. Now we have those people who want to decide which laws we need to follow and which ones we will ignore. The end won't be far off if this continues.

When people don't follow the Constitution, when they don't go by the proper means to change it.............all hell's going to break loose at some point.

This is the lesson that should be learned.

"For twenty-five years this agitation has been steadily increasing, until it has now secured to its aid the power of the common Government. Observing the forms of the Constitution, a sectional party has found within that Article establishing the Executive Department, the means of subverting the Constitution itself. A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery. He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common Government, because he has declared that that "Government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free," and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course o"f ultimate extinction."

All this says is that the new President will not likely do anything to uphold the Constitution.

"The people of the State of South Carolina, in Convention assembled, on the 26th day of April, A.D. 1852, declared that the frequent violations of the Constitution of the United States, by the Federal Government, and its encroachments upon the reserved rights of the States, fully justified this State in then withdrawing from the Federal Union; but in deference to the opinions and wishes of the other slaveholding States, she forbore at that time to exercise this right. Since that time, these encroachments have continued to increase, and further forbearance ceases to be a virtue."

"The South Carolina declaration of causes for secession makes clear that the north's election of a President who was dedicated to ending slavery was its most immediate reason for leaving the union."

It does not. Show me where Lincoln was dedicated to ending slavery???? Even PP admits that Lincoln had an 'epiphany' on slavery near the end of the war.

The SC declaration states it's cause for secession was the Federal Gov't not enforcing the Constitution, or the Compact.
