User Details are only visible to members.	Quoting "Mother Jones?" I am not going to take the time to go through the entire list. But Myth # 4 is a flat out lie. The active shooter in the mall outside Portland shot himself in the head, after he saw a gun pointed at him. And that is just one of many.

User Details are only visible to members.	Outdoors, I commend you (and others who do so) for defending their positions with facts and figures. Your list of myths, is really amazing and eye opening. We all have our "gut feelings" about certain issues but it's important to always check those agains the best facts we can. I was really surprised at some of those figures. Personally, I've always had a problem with gun owners who don't lock up their guns and don't take personal responsibility for what might happen just because they're available. I don't store gasoline in my house. How many gun owners have an arsenal (guns or ammo) available for a child, an argument, a thief, or a fire? I've also wondered about gun shows and the internet. All the responsible gun owners have been strangely quiet about the lack of background checks for certain venues. Never heard of a movement by the NRA brass to quell those purchases by possible criminals either. We'll never totally stop gun violence. But we can certainly lower it by some common sense steps. Yes, I said common sense. Never will be able to define that term but if gun violence goes down, I'll say some common sense steps have occurred.

Fact-check: In 2011, nearly 10 times more people were shot and killed in arguments than by civilians trying to stop a crime. • In one survey, nearly 1% of Americans reported using guns to defend themselves or their property. However, a closer look at their claims found that more than 50% involved using guns in an aggressive manner, such as escalating an argument. • A Philadelphia study found that the odds of an assault victim being shot were 4.5 times greater if he carried a gun. His odds of being killed were 4.2 times greater. Myth #7: Guns make women safer. Fact-check: In 2010, nearly 6 times more women were shot by husbands, boyfriends, and ex-partners than murdered by male strangers. • A woman's chances of being killed by her abuser increase more than 7 times if he has access to a gun. • One study found that women in states with higher gun ownership rates were 4.9 times more likely to be murdered by a gun that women in states with lower gun ownership rates.
