Actually I did error. Min. Wage was raised in 2007 July. What followed was a cry for Unions to ask for their fair share of the increase causing a ripple effect on the Job Market. Unemployment increased to 6.9 percent by Fall of 2007 and by sept. 2008 a full blown recession was declared. Federal Min. wage went from 5.15 to 7.25 per hour. So yes the increase happened almost 1 year prior to the Unemployment rate and the market to respond.

Only pre madonnas would think they are entitled to write-offs.

"I move that people be barred from using the word "feudalism" unless they have a card which proves they know what it means."

I will always feel fortunate to have read one of Robert's explications on feudalism that existed during what he called the "mid evil era."

Well we could call it cookiebakism too if we wanted to. It wouldn't make it so.

Feudalism was an arrangement of land usage and legal protections for services between landowners and vassals. No such system exists anywhere today except Sark.

Feudalism in the 21st Century would be when people are so desperate for income that they'll beg to work for nothing. Meantime, there are people with many many times more resources than they can ever need. So the poor beg the rich to take them on as slaves.

We already have many citizens working full time for minimum wage, and all their money goes to rent and daycare. They essentially work for nothing, and the govt. has to help them survive.

Making the minimum wage at least a minimum survival wage is not going to cause or contribute to a recession, but just the opposite.

Ultra-profitable corporations, that use their profits to evade the paying of taxes, are contributing to the recession.

"To have not raised it would have let it drift into uncharted territory, approaching feudalism. "

I move that people be barred from using the word "feudalism" unless they have a card which proves they know what it means. That is a word that is grossly misused by people across the entire political spectrum.

Well, the markets collapsed in 2007, so predicting a recession in 2008 doesn't require a prophet.

The minimum wage in 2007 was at an all-time low, relative to inflation. To have not raised it would have let it drift into uncharted territory, approaching feudalism.

Everyone who puts more than 30 seconds of actual thought into it can realize that a better minimum wage is good for the economy. People without money to spend obviously don't spend any, and instead rely on government support.

A business may realize more profit in the short term, from getting away with paying slave wages. But that's illusory and fleeting.
