Perfect,

The IRR has NOTHING to do with normal recruiting. The IRR is to replace shortages in specific specialties. DJack is correct that those called up through the IRR are already trained and usually consist of mid level supervisors and managers. The IRR was used during the 1980s when shortages were experienced in Intelligence and Aircraft Maintenance Positions and again in the mid to late 1990s during Bosnia for shortages in other career fields as well.

Corps calls up IRR Marines for Iraq

By Kimberly Johnson - Staff writer Posted : Tuesday Mar 27, 2007 9:25:39 EDT Most of the 1,800 Individual Ready Reservists the Corps involuntarily recalled this week will be sent to Iraq to fill specialty jobs the service is having trouble filling, according to a mobilization official.

Letters were mailed Monday to those IRR Marines, notifying them of an April muster in Kansas City, Lt. Col. Jeff Riehl, a mobilization officer with Marine Corps Manpower and Reserve Affairs, said Monday at a press briefing.

Those accepted for active duty will be issued orders to report for an Iraq deployment with I Marine Expeditionary Force in October, he said.

“Unit deployment dates will be in early 2008,” he said.

The Corps is authorized to involuntarily activate 2,500 IRR leathernecks at one time.

Mobilization officials called up 150 IRR Marines in December, of which only 69 were fit for active duty. This second round of involuntary call-ups will target 1,800, with the aim of filling about 1,200 active-duty slots.

Specifically, the Corps wants 361 aviation mechanics, 225 for logistics support, 223 for combat arms, 178 for motor transport, 97 for communication, 95 for intelligence and 21 for military police, Riehl said.

This week’s call-up is heavy on junior leathernecks and midgrade officers, including more than 1,000 sergeants and more than 100 captains, Riehl said.

“The Marine Corps is using the Marines in a prudent and judicious manner. We’re targeting the Marines that we need to get specific skill sets. And we’ve also adopted the philosophy of do no harm to the Marine,” Riehl said.

It would be possible for an activated IRR Marine to get a waiver for active-duty deployment through the issuance of a Delay, Deferment and Exemption for medical or family issues, he explained.

While some IRR Marines have volunteered for active duty, their efforts have not done much to alleviate the Corps’ manpower shortage in Iraq, Riehl said.

“The calls that come into me, unfortunately, are not the grade and [military occupational specialties] that we’re looking for. I don’t have the right mix of volunteers. So by targeting specific grades and MOSs, we can pull those Marines that we really need to go fill shortfalls.”

"The fact that most are commanders "

Ha ha ha ha ha ha

I can tell you've never served, since you can't differentiate between high ranking officers (Commanders) and lowly enlisted NCOs (sergeants).

Christ, you're an idiot. IRR members being re-activated does not equate to high recruiting rates. Those people are being "involuntarily re-activated". Capische?

And you expect me to believe you actually served in the military and have no concept of how the IRR works?

"Read your entire article, dipshit. Recruiting is still at a very high rate, and you cannot truthfully dispute it."

That article says no such of a thing. If recruiting was high there'd be no reason to activate the IRR. You're full of shit.

This one was interestin too:

By Gregg Zoroya - USA Today Posted : Tuesday Mar 20, 2007 13:11:58 EDT

Only about one-fifth of 10,000 veteran officers in the Army’s Individual Ready Reserve say they’re willing to be deployed overseas, an Army survey shows. It suggests souring attitudes within the military toward U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The rest of the officers are either quitting, retiring or being let go for failing to respond to Army questions about their readiness to deploy. The Army provided the survey results to USA Today.

(PressZoom) - WASHINGTON, March 26, 2007 – Over the next week, 1,800 Individual Ready Reserve Marines will receive notice from the Marine Corps that they are needed in Iraq, an official announced today. Marine Lt. Col. Jeff Riehl, Marine Corps Manpower and Reserve Affairs spokesman, told reporters at the Pentagon today that Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates approved the notification March 23, and the letters are being mailed today.

To date, the Corps has recalled 69 IRR members under this authorization, and today’s announcement represents the largest involuntary recall in the Marine Corps since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

If enough people are signing up then why is the Marine Corp being forced to call back 1,800 Individual Ready Reserve members next week?

DumbJerk, you should join with me -- your fellow veteran brother -- in calling on these chickenhawks to take the recruiting offices by storm, and show the rest of us just how much they really, truly love America.
