Original Starting post for this thread:
How ironic that during the election folks were beside themselves over Mitt Romney having a low tax rate, as he should have. Now that Apple is in the spotlight for paying a lower corporate tax rate I wonder how many of those outraged will dump their beloved Apple products....................

Outdoors...not to mention...it's a bit hard to jump to a quick hasty plan of Divorce when you Mother in law is living next door or upstairs...It wasn't Women' s rights that caused the jump in the divorce rate 40 to 50 years ago, it was the deprivation of a family support system

In the past, grandparents did much, if not most, of the parenting. And they taught their children how to be parents.

Now almost everyone in America learns parenting on the fly. The generation now having kids is typically the 2nd or 3rd such generation which does not know squat about rearing children.

You learn from your mistakes, but by then the damage is done. It does little good to look back and realize how you should have done it.

With the exception to large properties, we live like that now.

I see my extended family once in a long while. Either they or we (my family) are working.

We know the names of maybe half of the people on our street and only one on the other side of the block.

Hang on the street corner or make 3 circles and you'll be approached by someone looking to sell you something illegal.

Home security? Got that concerned. Metal pressure plates wired into a triggering system sets off an audible alarm and if I could learn programming, I could program a app so that the alarm alerts my desktop computer and the computer alerts me.

Place the pressure plates or magnet plates at all the doors and windows and you have a well protected home. Oh and then there is my mothers junk yard dog... She bits and dislikes intruders.

No Robert..it ALWAYS took a community to assure the welfare of each generation. Where we went wrong was draining the rural and urban areas where the extended faimily and communities thrived, for favor of suburban quarter acre lots with picket fences and security systems, where you may or may not know your neighbor's name, and see you extended family on imaginary holidays, weddings and funerals. Again, society suffers from amnesia and the delusion that this is the "traditional family"....when in fact it has existed for less than a century

It takes a village only becaise the parents are away working and the grandparents are too old to be in touch with reality and a ever changing and rapidly changing society.

Question: do you like paved roads? Emergency services? How about clean air and water? How about safe working conditions? These things cost money and are the conditions you agree to live by when you live in or do business in a first world nation. So you agree to be taxed.

What you fail to realize is that I have nothing against success. Yes, bill gates should be more wealthy than I. But because he is made so wealthy by the work his employees provide him and until we as a society accept our social responsibility to each other, the employer is both honor bound and duty bound to share their wealth at an amount which improves the lives of his workers.

If said employer is losing money and it isn't because he lives in excess or made bad choices... The employer has grounds to argue... But I have rearly seen cases where employers lose money due to the employees taking too much when compared to the pie the employers took.

As for me blaming the previous generation for our problems. I never said that you started them, only that you haven't made or taken steps to end the problems.

If you do not like the extent to which I trust capitalism, it is only becaise capitalism failed to sell me on its ideals.

Like how windows failed to sell me on the ideals of its security, so I bought an apple for my online banking needs, apple has yet to sell me on computer gaming or computer graphic needs. So I use both OS for different needs.

The same applies to socialism vs communism vs capitalism. Until you can sell not only me, but all those I see fighting every day to put food on the table, who lived their lives by the rule of law and hadn't gotten anywhere, until their lot in life is improved by your capitalism... The price of working in your system is too high and I will vote more liberal until their lives improve or this ship beached tips over.

Then we fight for survival... I am actually pretty good at that, but I can be cruel and heartless when I must. Not that I would ever sleep well or do sleep well.

I agree with PP, you definitely do NOT need a man in the house. In fact, most kids in traditional families are raised by mom anyway. Not to say that single dads do not do a good job, because they do. Like any other demographic, people are people and you get good ones and bad ones, luck of the draw. VA, I dislike that Robert seems to believe that the world at large owes him something and that everything bad that has happened to him is someone else's fault. I also dislike that he honestly thinks that my generation (almost his generation btw) is responsible for all the woes of the world. However in all of his ranting I have never seen him say that he beats women, I did see him write that he was abused until he was big enough to stop it. That to me simply means that. He stopped it, now where did indicate counter violence. Robert, Every person has the right to pursue happiness, the pursuit of happiness is the right to pursue wealth or objects or whatever floats your boat. They are not guaranteed to gain that happiness. What they are guaranteed is right to keep what they achieve. They may CHOOSE to give up some of this in exchange for say a nice house in a nice neighbor hood or cool phone or slick car, or a kick ass health plan that makes sure they get the tricked out wheelchair. Or the these objects may be the happiness that they pursue. The person that has no right to keep the fruit of his labor, but instead has those fruits taken from him and distributed is in fact the slave to which you touted so loudly about in other threads. You choose to work for who you choose to work for, you decide if the wage is fair. This is called agreement You do not get to choose to have a full third of your pay taken from you given to someone who CHOSE not to work, so that they could enjoy the same happiness you are actively pursuing. You do not get to choose to have another 7 to 10 percent taken at the register so that you don't get attacked in the street by folks who would rather take your happiness than go earn their own. You also do not get to choose to have even more of your earning taken from you when you go pay for your health care, because a large part of the population has decided that rather than pursue happiness, they will sit on their asses and wait for Obama to bring to them at YOUR expense. Please man, stop blaming the people who are out here trying our hardest to take care of ourselves and our families, stop blaming our parents who did the best they could to make sure we did not wind up as criminals and welfare cases, accept responsibility for self, go out and achieve for self, take care of self. Once you get self under wraps, then reach out and lend a hand to someone in need. If everyone takes care of themselves, and then one other person, everyone in America will have twice the amount of resources needed to be and achieve anything.

1) I said nothing about nuclear families. I said a that you need a second parent. (mm/ff/mf, grand parents, or others count)

2) a second parent doesn't add more expenses that they take and if they do, then they need to lose their access to the credit cards. Case in point my father is limited to an allowance. Any expense beyond the allowed amount must be oked by his wife. Why? Becaise he can't manage money, but he earns it.

As for usage of money. When my father worked factories, he worked, slept and then worked. That was it. I wouldn't see his face until the weekend. That is still an absent parent, but he took nothing beyond food and shelter from the family. (he wore clothing which was years old.)

3) You make moving sound easy. 9/10 women aren't strog enough to move on their own, to leave everything behind... Even if they have nothing, they have the familiarity of the home town.

Men have it easier to move, if I wasn't bound by the fact I am returning to college, or if I had meaningful skills, I would have been gone by now.

Robert...don't make excuses for people. This is what I guess separates me from the bleeding heart Liberal types; I am an FDR get off you ass and make it happen Liberal Type. In most states and areas, single parenthood all by itself allows you to take advantage of scores of programs that give you a hands up, and if you happen to live in one that doesn't, move to one that does. While an absent parent cuts the income potential, it also cuts the expenses, and if handled properly can be pretty much a wash.

Fuck the nuclear family...there, I said it Contrary to popular belief it is NOT a time honored tradition which saw great success. It is in fact, a 60 year old post WW2 failed social experiment The TRADITIONAL family is the extended and community family, and THAT is what we need to get back to. Before anyone asks..YES..I practice what I preach...3 generations live in my houshold
