User Details are only visible to members.	Actually, I do remember Rooney making many of those assertions in the OP. I used to watch 60 minutes faithfully every Sunday. Whether or not he made ALL of those assertions, I cannot say, but I do know he did say many of them. POI

User Details are only visible to members.	My beef is that it takes 30 seconds to source a quote like that these days with google. You wouldn't like someone finding your real name and posting up internet articles talking about how neocons are fascist scum who deserve their own Nuremberg Trials, would you? It's a peeve with mine, because as I noted, I've seen this from right wingers a lot, attributing things to Andy Rooney, to various military figures, etc. And then, as you note, it gets bounced around the blogosphere endlessly, each repetition just reinforcing what I consider to be slander - and what you would too, if it were your name being ascribed to positions you don't support. If nothing else, when corrected, a poster should go back to the original forum they got the quote from, or the person who sent them the e-mail containing it, and point out the error. Getting mad at the messenger who points out the error is just weak.

User Details are only visible to members.	I have reposted this thread. However, based on AUS, e_r and JNM thinking the internet is so accurate, I do not understand what AUS's beef is. Many internet articles and blogs attributed this, incorrectly, to Rooney. .38 simply made a mistake. Seems the internet is not the "Know all, See all" some try to state or claim it is.

"Next they will argue that Snopes dot com is not a valid resource." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snopes is a good resource, so is CNN, MSNBC, FOX etc. However, like all resources they are not infallible, nor are they always complete. It is called Human flaw and built in bias. Every site, newspaper, news outlet, blog, etc, makes errors. This is the first I noticed this forum and I caught the "Andy Rooney" mistake as well. However, I agree with .38; much of what the real author is trying to point out should be reflected upon and open to discussion. It goes back to our need to be a "politiclly correct" society versus open dialogue without biased attacks on one's position.

It seems to be very common for right wingers to say something inflammatory, and then stick it into the mouth of someone well known. I've never understood this particular pathology.
