I wonder why the President doesn't cite what the people 'polls' say when he's pushing for healthcare programs, taxes, or immigration reform.

Sex isn't guns, it isn't a security blanket. If given the choice between allowing two people to have equality in lifestyles as another two people or losing the security blanket that a fire arm gives.... Most people will give equality every time over the loss of the security blanket.

As for your dismissal of technology and creating future proof laws... This is why this nation is going to the dogs... Because no one wants to make anything that last, anything that means something.

You, like most want instant gratification. You are undisciplined in being able to reject the immediate and focus on the future.

What caused newtown wasn't a gun, it was our failure as a nation to accept we are drug addicts, that we are masochist who enjoy making life harder for everyone else... Just to feel empowered.

You feel powerless when faced with the prospects of someone having an automatic weapon, so you want to deny them that weapon. You are afraid and out of that fear you demand bad laws which won't work in the coming 10 to 15 years.

Bans aren't future proofing anything. They are feel good laws made for the here and now.... No different than laws which enable greedy men to rape and pillage retirement funds and companies, so to run away with the money.

3D printing will make all bans pointless. Worst yet, as Bosten has shown us, bombs are easy to make... And rison poison is too easy to make.

You need to stop this crap about bans, they don't work, you waste time and political capital trying to get them and empower those who end up winning and yes, blocking this was more of a victory for the right than you think it was.

You need to look to history, 1994 cost the dems dearly, this will cost us dearly.

Yes ...an assault weapons ban would have prevented Newtown......The dem votes were procedural so it could be res introduced....the neo nazis NRA cult just spit in the face on 90% of the American people....there will be much sadness among the mouth breathers in November 2014...can't wait

I think they over played the newtown event and that is what hurt their bill. Nothing in the bill would have prevented Newtown, and that was the linchpin of the debate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says the Senate's opposition to a bill that would have expanded background checks for gun buyers marks a "shameful day for Washington." He says a minority of senators decided "it wasn't worth it" to protect the nation's children. -----------

He's throwing a hissyfit because he couldn't get his way!

I say, fantastic!
