A renewable energy source designed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions may be contributing more to global warming than fossil fuels, a study suggests.

Measurements of emissions from the burning of biofuels derived from rapeseed and corn have been found to produce more greenhouse gas emissions than they save.

Other biofuels, especially those likely to see greater use over the next decade, performed better than fossil fuels, but the study raises serious questions about some of the most commonly produced varieties.

Rapeseed and corn biodiesels were calculated to produce up to 70 percent and 50 percent more greenhouse gases, respectively, than fossil fuels.

The concerns were raised over the levels of emissions of nitrous oxide, which is 296 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Scientists found that the use of biofuels released twice as much as nitrous oxide as previously realized. The research team found that 3 to 5 percent of the nitrogen in fertilizer was converted and emitted.

Zing, who are you refering to? If it's me, I think you're mistaken. If it's the inflammatory posts of a certain Floridian, by analyzing them here you are defeating the point of this thread. Kindly start your own.

Again: any thoughts on the relationship between capitalism and our paradigm of the enviroment (resource management vs. stewardship)?

I disagree, but I think you misunderstand my goals. It WILL NOT go away, I know. All I'm proposing is that in this thread (again ONLY this one) we just ignore the taunts and insults and keep our discussion going as if they never happened. These people want confrontation, not conversation. Sooner or later they'll get sick of being ignored and go find someone else to bully on another thread. Leaving us to actually DISCUSS something!

It would be great to see a woman in the White House but NOT a Marxist! Dispute these IF you can...lol

Who said this? (1) "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

(2) "It's time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, and for the few, and to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity."

(3) "(We) can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people."

(4) "We have to build a political consensus, and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own turf in order to create this common ground."

(5) "I certainly think the free-market has failed."

(6) "I think it's time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector in (the) entire economy - that they are being watched."

Now you might think these were the famous words of the Father of communism, Karl Marx. And you would be on the right track in thinking so. But you would be wrong.

These pearls of socialist/Marxist wisdom are from non other than our very own, home-grown Marxist. .

Hillary Clinton

Finally a post with Ideas! What you state here Zing, seems to be a critique of the process thus far; and, except for your conspirital tone, I agree. But as to the process yet to come, I propose that this thread become a bastion of open, moral, (textbook) Liberal dialogue- something new. When the haters come, as they have, and will; I propose to also do (with ONLY this thread) something new and untried, what most credible research says you do with any spoiled, bullying attention- hound... you ignore them until they realize on their own that if it is interaction they seek, such behavior is unacceptable. Now then, another point:

"The challenge facing anyone, whatever their political designation may be, who opposes the supposed supremacy of the 'platoon' is to maintain adult ego state while refuting, rebutting, or counter-claiming the arrogant assumptions, insults, mocks, and taunts, which all are meant to be demeaning"

Aren't you yourself one of the most active engagers of the above taunts and insults? Usually within some sort of sing- song, nursery- rhyme imagery? I fail to see how that "maintains an adult ego state".

Any thoughts on the topic I posted?!

Topic is wrong it should be a challenge to conservatives. And start our own threads? LOL Oh and name calling lets see? Nazi, clansman, inbreed, Neo con, racist, archie bunker, and all the rest. oh and starting our our thread? when we do its they are generally destroyed by a certain couple of posters who are cowardly and sent it off track. This thread is hypocridical at the very least. Dont worry though this one sided thread wont last long one sided threads dont so have at it....

Well well well. It seems that there are a few people on these forums who live to stalk around, POLICING (or at least attempting) the political exchanges of everyone else with PRE- EMPTIVE STRIKES; aping their party in an attempt to SHOCK & AWE us LIBERALS into just shutting - up. Hardly a behavior pattern befitting DEMOCRACY. Modern conservatives claim to advocate smaller government and a laissez- faire mentality, and that ALL liberal thought, supposedly because it is flawed from the get- go, cannot stand on it's own merits. So here is my challenge: leave us alone. Let THIS THREAD, and only this thread, be an open LIBERAL discussion area. Feel free to read it, but leave your dogma- spewing, name- calling, hate- baiting diatribes for the other threads. Let's see what WE can come up with when we're not reacting to these demagogues so much. What do you say, conservatives? Since we're SO mistaken and MISGUIDED, surely you can spare a bit of bandwidth to let us rant unabated? Hell, I'm even giving you the O.K. to SPY on us! NO WARRANTS! After- all we're just a bunch of swingers- not making policy. So why not- lest you're afraid of what we might come- up with? If you see something you don't like, you can always START YOUR OWN *^%#!ING THREAD, for a change. I'd read it. So- CENTRISTS and PROGRESSIVES, LIBERALS and MODERATES, here's the spot- let's abandon this stupid heckling and find some real solutions to some very real problems!

1st topic (or post your own): Is it possible to redirect our enviromental paradigm from one of resources management to one of stewardship (or some other) w/o abandoning capitalism on some or all levels?
