Wall St has released a list of the 10 wealthiest U.S. presidents. The figures were calculated in 2010 dollars (except for those presidents still living, since more recent earnings information is available). Hard assets such as land, estimated lifetime savings based on work history, inheritance and homes were all taken into account. And in case you were wondering, President Obama doesn't even come close to making the list. His net worth is estimated at $7 million. Here are the Top 10 wealthiest U.S. presidents: 1. George Washington, $525 million 2. Thomas Jefferson, $212 million 3. Theodore Roosevelt, $125 million 4. Andrew Jackson, $119 million 5. James Madison, $101 million 6. Lyndon Johnson, $98 million 7. Herbert Hoover, $75 million 8. Franklin Roosevelt, $60 million 9. Bill Clinton, $55 million 10. John F. Kennedy, $1 billion (never inherited his father's estate)

We have updated our numbers to reflect the earnings of the still-living presidents. One thing remains clear: it pays to be president, especially AFTER leaving office. President Obama is not one of the wealthiest presidents of all times. Yet his net worth increased from $5 million in 2010 to an estimated $7 million, primarily from his book sales. If Bill Clinton is any indication, Obama can expect to make much more money in speaking engagements once he exits office in 2017.

While that seems unbelievable - even in 1789 dollars - the Feds spent an aggregate of just $1.09 billion in their first 60 years. It wasn't until 1849 that the US government spent its $1 billionth dollar. They now spend $1 billion in a little less than 6 hours, on average.

User Details are only visible to members.	He "got it", or he "owned it"? Remember also that in those days the Federal government had a very small role in the budget of the US, mostly defense. The US federal budget in the 1790s was around $25 billion in 2010 dollars? Where did you get that number?

I saw that piece in the weeks before the election, indicating that Romney would be either #3 or #4, depending on whose estimate of his wealth you would have used. The Bushes aren't on that list either, but John Kerry would have been #2 (#1 if you count his wife's assets too). I'm surprised to see that Clinton is on there - I didn't know he was that wealthy.
