There's an interesting molecule that seems to favorably treat persons with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (low libido, not interested in sex). The molecule is currently called kisspeptin, a peptide that binds to receptors in many tissues, including the brain. It was originally identified as a molecule in a pathway that controls the spread of cancer cells--the effect on libido was unexpected. Then again, sildenafil ("Viagra") was originally screened as a treatment for hypertension and we know how that ended. .
There are two recent publications--early studies in men and women respectively--appearing in a prominent peer-reviewed journal suggesting that exposure to the peptide substantially increases responsiveness when research subjects viewed sexually graphic films. The investigator teams concluded--as much as responsible scientists will conclude--that the molecular seems effective and in these early studies appears to have no adverse effects.
