This was always one of my favorite threads.
I'm currently reading Under Magnolia: A Southern Memoir by Frances Mayes, the author of Under the Tuscan Sun. I've just started this one and after reading a passage about her grandmothers cooking I was vividly reminded of a dish my mom used to make. I e-mailed my siblings with my childhood food memory; I've been pleasantly surprised to learn we each had our own favorite dishes, and I'd forgotten many of them. It was a nice reason to message all of them. Did anyone else have City Chicken aka Mock Chicken as a kid? Hard to imagine a time when chicken was too expensive for everyday folk.
I keep a book in the car for when I get stuck somewhere or find a wonderful park. My 'car' book is The Correspondence of Shelby Foote and Walker Percy. I'm thoroughly enjoying this book and find it hard to abandon it each time I leave the car. LOL
