Big mistake going to the strip on Christmas day. The strip was packed with tourists from all over the world. Lines at the top buffets where hours long. Had to eat at a steakhouse.

We turned down a tourist couple that wanted to play, only to find we could not get into the feast.

I gotta admit, Mickey's dinner sounded awfully good. I had wild boar tenderloin once in 2001 or so and it was incredible.

We usually have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. We then have breakfast Christmas morning, go to the movies (Star Wars) and then have Christmas dinner part 2: reheated the meat, reconstitute the gravy, and make a new batch of mashed potatoes and voila - Christmas dinner again.

The reasoning is:

1. We go through most of the work on Christmas Eve so on Christmas Day it's mostly relaxing with family.

2. We get TWO Christmas dinners.

We began this tradition with the Fellowship of the Ring in 1999. We have done it most Christmases since.

Our Christmas dinner is pretty typical - a turkey, a ham, mashed potatoes, good ol' Stove Top "stuffing", peas, corn, carrots, rolls, and a shit ton of gravy and butter. If we have a big crowd I also make sweet potato casserole, the southern way with brown sugar maple syrup bourbon and the marshmallows, but this year we were only 8 so I didn't do it.

Of course, pumpkin pie. I make it the very old way - using lard and knives to mix. Also with mace, typically not used in modern recipes, which imparts a different flavor. More common in Canada.

Hope that everyone had a good Christmas

...and the deserts...

I hear the Mohave is beautiful this time of year. Never seen the Sahara. ...someday soon...

OnT: Pecan-crusted drum last night. Ate light, knowing that I'd be making a homemade andouille, chorizo, and maple sausage hash with eggs-over for the kiddos after we opened presents this am.

Nap time before drop-off, and some adulting.
