Lady: I had a similar breakfast about to have some chopped spinich, herring in hot sauce and some carrot straws with some lite dressing. I decided to sort of fast this week for Thanksgiving. With the diabetes, I have to be careful so no fancy meat just fish and veggies, maybe a simple soup and lots of water. No caviar...LOL! I am fucking with Bridge who thinks I am high-faluting or whatever he thinks of us New Yorkers, Manhattanites in particular....LMAO!

Natural bodybuilders, for the most part, avoid dairy. Sometimes even in the so-called off-season. Steroid users have more freedom of choices as they have chemicals to enhance their progress although they still have to train as hard and eat well so I have no idea who your trainer is talking about. Bodybuilders, especially competitive ones, will NEVER give protein shakes up until the last several weeks for cutting depending on their conditioning. I know this for a fact. I did thisfor several years.

Interesting Carrie. I know its a good workout "recovery" drink. Does he encourage you to eat something too? I tend to drink my chocolate milk and not want to eat for several hours after waking, even if I work out first thing in the morning.

My trainer encouarges my chocolate milk drinking. He says it is a good protein source and a lot of body builder are starting to drink that, instead of a protein shake.

Eating is like "training." When I started out in bodybuilding, I had to "train" myself to eat five meals per day to complement my weight training. I still eat the same way, only smaller as I don't train with the same intensity and I am older and that makes a huge difference.

My biggest morning isssue is the smell of food just makes me sick in the mornings. I have never been a fan of cereal.

What I need to do is change my chocolate milk into chocolate protien shakes, I work out and dance almost every morning.

my daily breakfast of choice is a smoothie. i do use a banana in it; eventually i know the daily smoothie will need a different flavourful fruit or other addition to the protein powder. for now i corrected my a1c enough that the banana is ok. occasionally i indulge on "special" occasions like yesterday and go for the carb or the sweets with my lil darling. rare though. and boy do i feel it on those occasions. it definitely sets the day off in the wrong direction. today right back to smoothie breakfast.

and yeah i definitely need some kind of carbs in each day or i just don't function optimally. avoid the simple ones for the most part. we can "quit" just about anything else in life "cold turkey" except....food. so the ongoing struggle for balance continues.

Peg: Your suggestions are spot on! Normally, I only eat one "complex" carb per day and that's my 1/2 medium or 1 small sweet potato with my turkey bacon and eggs. My brain needs a certain amount of carbs to function -- actually everyone's brain does -- and if I forego that carb in the morning, I will craze all kinds of shit during the day thus why I have to stay away from pretzels. They are a trigger food for me and shoots my glucose through the roof sometimes. It's weird. There is a saying I read somewhere that you should have breakfast like a king and dinner like a pauper -- in other words, eat your heavy meal in the morning and go lighter as the day goes on. And water.....drink lots of water. I've given up rice, bread, pasta, even oatmeal so the sweet potato is the only complex carb I eat. On occasion, I will go to McDonald's for that Southwest Chicken wrap. I miss the bagels and bran muffins. I try to stay focused on the "fibrous" carbs. Believe it or not, some people don't know the difference between complex and fibrous. We are helping people here. You've helped me...thanks.
