WTF I thought we got past this shit back in the 70's when my mom married my step dad and we went through it with the rednecks and the Negroes but I guess not every one has moved into the 21st century.

My daughter is engaged to a Jewish man. His a great guy, BUT his parents are orthodox Jews and even after we took the time to trace my daughters bloodline back to her Jewish roots, and had it certified by a rabbi, she's the wrong kind of Jew. She's a Maccabee and some how they are considered slaves and not good enough to marry a regular Jew. So his parents have told their son if he marries my daughter they will disown him and that he will be dead to them.

_rabbit_, i've encountered both scenarios. the latter ploy doesn't happen a lot but i've had it happen enough times that it doesn't surprise me any longer unfortunately.

i had some men contact me (i had put in my profile header i might attend) asking me to be their "guest" at a local meet/greet/party. no prior contact, didn't know them from adam, and said a polite but definite no to each.

apparently it is not an uncommon practice. my replies were polite, which is apparently more courtesy than these folks are used to receiving. :P

now i know that putting any party info in my profile in future may lead to more of the same.

as long as there are "rules" or restrictions of any kind, there will be those who seek a way around them.

Ok, I'm used to SMs having a couple's profile to get around blocks to get at couples and SFs but I've just experienced something new. Today I received an email from a couple that was actually a SF looking to find a girlfriend, or "unicorn" as she put it. No idea why she had a couple profile if she's a SF...she'd have more luck alone. She blocked me when I said "thanks but no thanks"

Then I received an email from a SF profile that was actually a couple. I loved the way she said it would make her hot to watch her man "pounding me". Now, I know this latter ploy is not uncommon but it's the first time I've encountered it.

So, I'm figuring that the economy must be improving if their spending that much money on Pets.

NJ, I usually like to make lobster and shrimp scampi for my Valentine. I also make a real Key Lime pie from scratch. Never fails to please.

lol @ cuckoo for cocoa puffs. that is seriously funny.

as for the pets/valentine's day? i get why people buy stuff for their pets.

and considering how many pets there are worldwide somehow the dollar amount doesn't shock me.

my sibling calls it a hallmark holiday. huge revenue generator.

if i am in a relationship in future that merits recognition of a sweetheart i will let it be known i prefer *not* to have serious bucks spent on flowers. or overpriced restaurants.

stay in, cook together. in multiple ways.

Many of the journals he submitted them to, as it turns out, are the equivalent of "vanity publishers" - you pay, they publish. They seem reputable but in truth, they are not.

Mark Shrime, a Harvard medical researcher - conducted an experiment. He wanted to see how easily it was to publish nonsense in a medical journal.

As it turns out, it's not very hard. He used a random text generator to write the paper, and submitted it to 37 medical journals. 17 accepted it for publication.

The article is entitled “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?” and its authors are the venerable Pinkerton A. LeBrain and Orson Welles. The subtitle reads: "The surgical and neoplastic role of cacao extract in breakfast cereals". Several have already typeset it and given him reviews, as you can see at the end of this article. One publication says his methods are "novel and innovative"!. But when Shrime looked up the physical locations of these publications, he discovered that many had very suspicious addresses; one was actually inside a strip club.
