Study: Smelling farts is good for your health

The next time someone at your office lets out a "silent but deadly" emission, maybe you should thank them. A new study at the University of Exeter suggests that smelling farts could prevent disease and even cancer.

The study, published in the Medicinal Chemistry Communications journal, found that flatulence could be a key factor in treating diseases.

"Although hydrogen sulfide gas is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could in fact be a healthcare hero with significant implications for future therapies for a variety of diseases," Dr. Mark Wood, a professor at the University of Exeter, said in a statement.

While hydrogen sulfide gas is harmful in large doses, smelling it in small amounts could reduce the risk of cancer, strokes, heart attacks, arthritis, and dementia by preserving the body's mitochondria. Dr. Matt Whiteman, a University of Exeter professor who worked on the study, said in a statement that researchers are even replicating the natural gas to reap its health benefits.

savandwin, being from NYS and NJ we had trouble with our bird feeders. Squirrels, and Bear never saw Deer. You have to do a bit of engineering. Get the bird feeder on a rope and pulley attached to a high branch. This way you can lower the feeder to fill it and tie it off high enough so they can't reach it. Put a metal circle so the Squirrels can't slide down rope or jump to it. Other option move to Colorado. We have a open field and the Hawks and Coyotes take care of the Squirrels

WTF........We had a squirrel destroy our bird feeder a few weeks ago, since I missed seeing the birds I finally went out and got a metal mesh one hoping it would survive more then 1 month. For a week the birds ignored it. Yesterday for the first time I see the birds are back. I'm so excited. We've got lovely several Blue Bunting, Cardinals and wrens of all assorted types. Today I notice the feeder is completely empty so I fill it once more. While I'm out there I proceed to water the flowers in the front. As I head back to the patio I see this Deer chowing down on bird seed. He has tipped the feeder in such a way it looks like he is throwing down a container of Tic Tacs!!!! He hears and and runs away only to return a few minutes later and "finish" his snack!!!!He then strolls over to the bird bath which I just filled, has his fill and prances away. It's 2 :oo in the middle of the damn day, we live on the edge of the woods....surely there is something more delicious then my Bird Seed . He seems very young and is completely unafraid that my cats are going crazy in the window and I am inside taking pictures not 10 feet from him.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this somewhere before, but...

My cat has started mimicking the word "hello". It began a few weeks ago, although originally it was pushing it a bit to say she was "saying" the word (it sounded more like "erroooow" with the O sound drawn out), it has become very clear that she is actually saying the word "hello", pronounced like a human would imitating how they would imagine a cat would say it, and she has gotten much better at it, to the point where any person would agree she's mimicking the word "hello". She did it incessantly for a few minutes in the middle of the night - probably 30 - 40 times. And I'm not nuts or dreaming - the Mrs. woke up too "why is the cat saying "Hello"???"

While you might think we're losing our minds, youtube is full of videos of cats saying the word "hello", with various levels of clarity. It seems that this is both a (relatively) easy word for cats to mimic, and possibly it's a word they hear a lot.

Now if only I could teach her to answer the phone.

A Swedish artist and experimental filmmaker who is working on what he calls the "longest film ever made" (approximate running time: 720 hours) has released a 72-minute trailer for it.

According to director Anders Weberg, the "short teaser" for "Ambiancé" is supposed to "convey the mood and tempo from the full piece."

In it, "space and time is intertwined into a surreal dream-like journey beyond places and is an abstract nonlinear narrative summary of the artist’s time spent with the moving image," Weberg explains.

The first full trailer (duration: seven hours and 20 minutes) won't be released until 2016, with a longer, 72-hour trailer slated for 2018, according to the director. He plans to release the full, 30-day-long "film memoir" in 2020.

Just don't get stuck in the line for popcorn. Weberg says Ambiancé will screen once and then be "destroyed."

OMG, I love my smartphone!

Yes, you can live without it, but why? It helps me daily. I can find the nearest store, order a book and have it downloaded in seconds. I even use it to pay for my coffee. Right now, I'm tracking my diet and exercise. It's great for communication, but more importantly for me, information. Daily, even several times per day I use it to look something up. It can be a medical issue, how to stuff formal invitations, or what is a sancho?

My husband didn't think he needed one, but broke down and got one last year. He loves it almost as much as I do!

Are we old fashion or what as we don't do FB and gasp don't even have a cell phone. We grew up without FB or cell phones, texiting or any of the other social online and believe that we turned out alright as adults and members of the human race.
