Just found out that a guy I know was arrested yesterday for collecting child porn off of the internet. He told the officers searching his house and comp that the good stuff is stored on the external hard drives".

To be clear I'm not friends with him, in fact I never liked him but I worked with him when I first came to NOLA and run into him occasionally. In fact, I just saw him last week. He always struck me as creepy. Neither I, nor my actual friends who know him, are surprised in the least. We all knew there was something weird and wrong about him but never could figure out exactly what it was.

Her parents have no idea, although hanging is an extremely unusual means of homicide.

Certainly nobody will say that the officer didn't lose control of himself after her belligerence. He's not free from guilt and probably should face disciplinary action for acting unprofessionally.

But - you're not going to get the story you're looking for. If you're hoping for a "white cop pulls over innocent cooperative black woman and beats her to death", you're going to have to look elsewhere.

@VA: There is no need to be crude for goodness sake. Anyway, @Mr. Heat, I try to figure out what the big deal is to comply with law enforcement. If it was the middle of the night, ok, maybe I would be reluctant. It was daytime. Maybe I am old school or stupid but when I am pulled over, which has only happened three times in my lifetime and before the crazy cops, I comply and taught my sons to do the same.

Also why couldn't the trooper just arrest her in front of his car camera? That camera is there for him & her. Knowing all the stuff thats been going on i would've protected myself a bit more and kept it all on camera if I was that trooper.

I don't think the parents are saying it was suicide. They feel she might've been murdered.

Btw she new her rights, she didn't have to put out the cigarette & nor did the officer have any reasonable cause to order her out of her car. She told the officer she pulled to the next lane to let him go by also.

If it were my kid, I'd be unhappy with how the whole thing went, but also seriously ashamed of what a total fuckwad my kid was.

She escalated what otherwise would have been a "have a nice day" warning by being a total cunt to someone who had been (up to that point) relatively polite and professional.

He escalated it further when he lost patience with said cunt-ness.

She ramped up her cunt-ness. He got grouchy and decided to order her out of the car. She kept going, he kept going, etc.

As for her suicide - I don't know what "Justice" anyone wants. You can't pin a suicide on the cop who arrested her two days prior.

As for "attempted suicide in the past" - I'm going to sound very cold but "if I had a dollar for every time I heard that". Something like 60% of the female population has "attempted" suicide. It is so pervasive as to be practically meaningless, especially as a manipulative measure.

Btw - statistics for parasuicide are extremely difficult to come by because respondents often "don't count" something. A friend of my daughter for instance will certainly tell boyfriends she has "tried to kill herself" but if I asked her, she'd laugh it off and say she wasn't serious. So yes I pulled my 60% out of my ass - but I'm sure it's FAR higher than the 1-2% that some organizations report.

I agree to just comply and refrain from yelling at an officer. Bring a lawsuit if needed later.

On the other hand, I have been pulled over for no reason and questioned. It is frightening.

The officer refused to let her call her attorney or to record the encounter which would have made her feel safer.

Both sides need to step up!

I know a lot of people may not agree with me but I think this may have been totally avoided in the first place. Had I been pulled over for this minor traffic violation or whatever and was smoking and was asked to put the cigarette out, I would have. Knowing the tension going on with law enforcement and she knew as she was an activist. Isn't it wiser and easier just to comply? Step out of the vehicle. Why push the officer. I am sorry she's dead and if they knew according to the paperwork that she was a suicide risk she should have been put on suicide watch so as I find myself saying often there is enough blame to go around.

Sandra Bland was from same part of the greater Chicago area that I'm in... Her family wants it out there and they're calling for action. They are out in front of the local news here... and rightfully so.
