good- that is unless they fit under HR 218

I am sure tweedle served his country , I mean he rambles on and on about it so it must be true. Just like he was a first responder during Sandy, his job was to seek out YFI , as soon as he lost the internets that Al gore invented.

Although there are times I wonder if Tweedle doesn't fabricate some of his personna to impress the ladies....

Forgot to answer one of rdy's questions- if you fail you do not have to gve up the gun, you just can't get a CCW permit. which then means if you want to purchase another gun, you have to go get a purchase permit.

There is no required proficiency tests required to purchase or own a gun in MN. I know little about NJ law, except...

CA, CT, HI, IL, NJ, NV, and NY do not allow non residents to carry concealed weapons.

"Tell me, in order to buy a hand gun (pistol) do you have to take a gun safety course? Do you have to qualify at an approved shooting range? How often does your purchase permit, or hand gun permit have to be renewed? How often do you have to retake a safety course? How often do you have to qualify?"

Rdy, when you asked the above, I indicated I was unsure about the laws in NJ regarding purchasing. I know every state is different. New Jersey, New York and Conneticut for example have among the strictest laws regarding ownership of guns in the nation. Those 3 states for example do not honor my permits to carry.

In MN a permit to purchase is required before purchasing a handgun or some types of long guns. You can select a gun at a licensed firearms dealer, fill out the paperwork, and return in about a week to get the gun. I forget exactly because I've never done it that way.

The second option is to fill out the proper paperwork at the police department in the city you live for a purchase permit. If approved, you get a permit to purchase that is valid for one year for any handgun or those select long guns that require the permit.

The 3rd option, and the one that I use is to have a CCW permit. A CCW permit allows the holder to purchase any firearm at any time. There is of course the federal paperwork to fill out and they do a check, which usually takes about 5 minutes since I have all the other documents. Then i walk out with the firearm that day.

I indicated previously what I had to do to get a CCW permit. What I didn't say is the CCW permit is valid for 5 years. To renew, I have to show proof that I have completed the required training and qualification testing within, I believe, 6 months prior to renewing. Maybe it's a year, I forget. Irrelevant to me because I requalify about 3 months prior to the renewal date.

So- people in MN who have a CCW permit can purchase anytime with no waiting period, and just have to requalify/retest/retrain every 5 years.

>You guys are funny, it seems to me that the gun culture is afraid to know who has guns in their neighborhood.

Doesn't bother me if the neighbors know. We have very little crime here, but I'm sure the small bit we do have would probably taper off.

>Seems to me that you are all paranoid, I don't know why but you all have a sense of people knowing something about you that you don't want others to know.

People have an expectation of privacy because stupid and judgmental people will stereotype them based on what they do in private. People have lost jobs because private information has been leaked to the public. Several years ago a Supreme Court nominee withdrew his name because it turned out that he had ::gasp:: rented a porn flick.

Arrest records are also public information. What good would come of posting a list of everyone who was ever busted for possession of a single joint?

How would your neighbors (or your boss, or your minster, or your kid's teachers, or the parent's of the boys on the little league team you coach) respond if the SLS members list were made public? Would you like to be considered by them as a sexual pervert? What did you do to earn that title? Not a thing, but that apparently doesn't matter.

>Tell me, in order to buy a hand gun (pistol) do you have to take a gun safety course? Do you have to qualify at an approved shooting range? How often does your purchase permit, or hand gun permit have to be renewed? How often do you have to retake a safety course? How often do you have to qualify?

In most jurisdictions, no. But, then again, you don't have to do anything similar to publish a newspaper, post a blog, distribute leaflets, protest in public or in any way exercise your 1st amendment rights.

As for thanking the New York Journal News... The list they published also contains the names and addresses of women who have escaped abusive relationships. They obtained permits to have a gun to protect themselves. Their new addresses are now available to the husbands/boyfriends they escaped from. Yes... great job there!

My paranoia ? What pray tel am I paranoid about. I don't own a gun, I'm not on your precious list . You did make one true statement...you could never EVER satisfy me . The very idea of being within spitting distance of you is incomprehensible, in the same city as you would give me nightmares, to have you as a neighbor would terrify me , call me paranoid...I call it smart.

Maybe he wants the list so he knows who not to piss off with his nonsense and stalking behavior, so he knows who not to mess with, who not to "out" publicly in the forums and/or in life and so knows who might blow his head off if they caught him with his Joom lens trained on their children/ wife on the beach. Sounds to me it is he who is paranoid and paranoid people generally have a reason to be.

Any person who, without just cause invades the privacy of anyone is a clear and real danger. Mrs Sav
