Original Starting post for this thread:
Let's get things going on the right foot. Last year somebody had posted about growing potatos in a bag, I lost the link , but I am sure I saw it in one of the posts in the forums.

Lets hear what other tips and things you do for the start of the growing season

There are quite a few koi pond lovers out the in the colder regions, they just dig deep and keep the water moving so the pond doesn't turn into an ice block.

Fish can live off of their fat stores over the winter.

See That is the thing Shallow water here can freeze 3' deep, My pool has frozen solid in years past. that is why i have resisted my wife's insistence on digging a pond in.

Minimum depth for koi is 24"

I would suggest digging a deeper pond, include a spillway to aerate the pond as the fish hibernate on the bottom until thaw.

Moving water is all they need and ability to move around.

If all else fails, break out the Tabasco and invite VA over! ;)

I decided to trade with Kerry and Carrie for a motorcycle frame. I am losing that big pond and the smaller fish from the little pond. I have a small grow pond for my water Lillie's and orchids to surround it. We plan to put a table out there as well. The koi will go in the smaller pond.
