"/rantofaguywhodislikesprofessionalsports" NOW it's completely accurate. ;) And as far as missing out if a playoff sweep happens, doesn't EVERY fan who buys season tickets take on that same gamble? If your team doesn't make the playoff's, those tickets you bought are now worthless. I'm fairly certain you won't get a refund for them. The cold hard fact of professional sports is you (the consumer) pay for the privilege of watching these guys get paid to do their job. It's an entertainment expense through and through. My head tells me that it's no better or worse for the team who sweeps the first two games and then the next two, thus cheating the third evening stay in the secondary host city out of revenue. I honestly don't see how it's so much different than one city hosting a giant party for a whole week. Even if one team loses and all their fans decide to go home, the other team's fans are still there. Even at 1/2 capacity, it's more than the normal 1/8th they would run that time of the year anyway. And considering hotels love to gouge you on special event conditions anyway, the money made over 3 days would more than compensate for the loss of 2 days if everyone pulled up stakes and went home. Sure a host city is going to have to jump through (and pardon the pun) hoops to make this happen, but how is that any different than say, San Diego hosting Comic Con every year? Or Vegas hosting E3? All of these things are yearly events that last 5 days and span multiple buildings. We're talking about an exponential number of more people than you'd find even at a final NBA game, and they do this EVERY year. I just don't buy into the idea that to be crowned a champion, you have to play 1/2 the time at the place you call home.

As for the neutral site thing, it works in football and the Super Bowl because it's only 1 game and "Super Bowl week" is guaranteed to be over the Sunday night the game is played and it's business as usual on Monday. Host cities can plan for that. It wouldn't work in any of the other 3 major sports in this country because a 7 game series would occupy the host city for up to 2 weeks if they played every other day. That would actually increase the cost for teams and fans alike. Hotel rates go through the roof during Super Bowl week. And if you tried to schedule the NBA Finals in a neutral city, you'd have to block off the venue and lodging for at least 2 weeks. What happens when it's a 4 game sweep and over in 8 days? That city has just lost a lot of potential revenue from big businesses who were considering holding a conference there, but didn't because all the hotels were booked. Concerts or car shows or whatever could have been scheduled for the arena but it was set aside for games 5 through 7 that may or may not happen. Also, fans travel to see football games. I travel once or twice a year to watch the Eagles play. And they suck. But I still go. You know what I won't travel to see? Basketball. Why? 3 reasons: 1. The game is less intense. I love hoops but watching in the stadium is nowhere near the same experience as being at a football game. (College hoops is an exception....which is also why they have the tourney and championship on neutral sites). 2. Basketball is about 100000000x better for viewing on tv than football is while football is 1000000000x better in the stadium than basketball. I almost never miss a thing watching hoops on tv. The camera catches half of the court and they're only on 1 half of the court at a time. My view watching on tv is no different than being in the upper level in the arena. There's a lot of things going on on a football field during a single play that are out of the camera's view during a football game though. I can only see the roughly 20-25 yards of field that the camera can capture. What I can't see are the routes the receivers are running downfield. Can't see any illegal contact or a guy wide open. But I can see all of that in the stadium. 3. I'm not going to be able to travel for the duration of a 7 game series. I could take of for a few days and maybe catch 2 games, but that's probably it. And there's no guarantee I'm going to actually see the end of the series. If I get tickets to games 2 and 3, I'm definitely not going to be in the arena to watch my team win a championship. So why take on the added expense of flying somewhere, paying jacked up hotel costs if it won't even guarantee me the chance of seeing a team win the championship. I'll get that finality with the Super Bowl. It's 1 and done. T

Sure the guys playing are athletes, but for 100+ million a year plus endorsements, can't anyone be? Now you're telling me that the referees, those impartial bastions of good and justness, are "influenced" by a crowd of fans? SRSLYOMGWTF? So no only is your team reliant on having a "home court" advantage to be successful at winning against the same opponent multiple times, they also require the added benefit of shady judging depending on where they happen to be playing? Shut the front door!

Seriously, the home court advantage is less at the Finals, because the best refs tend to work the games. Refs are influenced by fans, and the better ones are influenced less (or not at all). It's quite illogical to think the better team will win every game, in any sport. The game is timed, and the winner is whoever is ahead at the time; the better team is more likely to win a game. You may guess at the odds.

Prior to the season starting, one city is chosen to host the big game(s) Why shuttle around your players up to 7 times (which I find personally dumb...If you are the best and potential "world champions", you should be able to win every time against the same opponent regardless of the color of the building you're in, but hey...that's just the logic talking) and make it impossible for the fans of the opposing team to get a fair deal in tickets at your court and therefore ensuring you have a home court (which is another stupid concept considering all courts are exactly the same dimensions) advantage. If you need a built in "advantage" to win, does that really make you the better team? Seems it's more skewed towards who can rake in the most profit before putting up the nets for a few months instead of a competition of who is better than who. /rantofaguywhodislikesbasketball

User Details are only visible to members.	If the alleged "best team" loses 4 of 5 games, they could blame it on losing all 3 on the road while losing 1 of 2 at home ... I guess. The 22111 format involves up to 4 changes of venue. The current 232 involves 2 at most. That's a lot of people -- teams, staff, media, fans -- doing a lot more flying. Not so good for the environment. Some years ago, I did the math. As I recall, the 232 format makes it more likely that a series will go beyond 5 games.

Since home teams are typically the favorite to win individual games come Finals time, the Spurs now have the opportunity to close the series at home having already won 1 game in Miami. If they split in Miami and go back to San Antonio tied, they could possibly win all 3 at home and win the series and Miami would have only had 2 home games compared to San Antonio's 3. Not much of a HCA for the team with the best record in the league. Obviously, if San Antonio sweeps the series in 4 games, it's a moot point because even in the 2-2-1-1-1 format, San Antonio still takes the series before it goes back to Miami, but at least in that scenario, both teams get the same amount of games at home. Not to mention that the 2-3-2 format only applies to the Finals and it's stupid to have 1 format for the first 3 rounds and then something totally different for the Finals. And the 2-3-2 format was put in place to make travel easier for teams during the Finals. And maybe that made sense at the time since many teams were still flying commercial. But now teams are using private jets and aren't subject to commercial schedules and costs. T

San Antonio has a distinct HC advantage now thanks to the 2-3-2 format......which I hate. Go back to 2-2-1-1-1, please. My initial prediction was Heat in 7 and I'm sticking with it. T
