I've always suspected there are people out there either opposed to or incapable of thinking. Some make it pathetically obvious.

"I'm not going to get into all the financial details. lol. "

Would that be because you have no clue what you are talking about?

"That's your problem right there."

No. My problem is that I try to inform myself on a subject and actually think about it before spouting off the first thing that floats through my head. And then I try to express that thought with clarity, or at the very least, with grammar that wouldn't embarrass a middle schooler.

But you wouldn't know nothing about.

Most universities have many sources of revenue and athletics just happens to have become a huge one recently. Schools did not "open" in the 1800's thinking about TV revenue and selling licensed merchandise.

But let's play this out. How would you pay the student? Do you take the scholarship away and just write them a check? Based on position? QB's make more and linemen less? Starter or reserve? Would there be a "freshman" wage scale? How much? $25,000/year? (A decent starting salary for an 18 YO kid) Guess what, his scholarship is worth more. Or maybe each kid gets $1000/month PLUS his scholarship. Do you pay that to the girls golf team and the lacrosse team and the volley ball team players too? No?? Only the kids who bring in the money?

Gotcha, sell the most talented players to the highest bidder.

"First off the sports programs shouldn't be used to keep a school open and running or any other sports programs. That should be the obvious that schools opened up in the first place not counting on making money from sports programs. That's your problem right there. Schools shouldn't depend on star athletes fame and again money making star power. That's only obvious. But you wouldn't know nothing about. So I'm not judging. "

Let me get this straight. A school is not supposed to make a profit from sports and if they do, they should not subsidize other athletic programs at the university. Forget for a minute that it is actually a federal mandate that they do so but who do you think should get the money? Divvy it up amongst the star athletes?

Exactly Fun.

The big schools are the ones pushing to pay the players a stipend because they can afford it. Smaller schools will go back to being doormats like they were before. The difference between the haves and have-nots will just widen. A recruit will now get offered cash to play for a big school where a smaller schools won't be able to afford it. That is how you want college athletes to choose who to play for? Show me the money?!

Once again, it's a simple answer. If your child feels taken advantage of for getting a free college education, skip the athletic scholarship and pay your own way.

ATown, I think we will see the NCAA amending the rules before long to allow some stipend to the players. But there are problems doing so.

First, every university uses profits from football and basketball to subsidize the other sports that don't make money. Title IX increases the imperative for doing so.

Second, the NCAA is adamant about maintaining the fiction of a supposedly level playing field in the recruiting of athletes. It would never allow any university to offer more of a stipend than another offers. And there simply are too many universities unable financially to pay meaningful stipends to all of it's student athletes.

Simply saying "that shit don't make no sense" is fine, until you actually think about it a bit.
