User Details are only visible to members.	Dealt with the devestation of what Sandy left behind on Staten Island and Brooklyn. Living in Jersey, all that you hear is how hard jersey was hit. While all others are literally unheard from. Some areas in Staten Island is in ruins, the same for Brooklyn. My parents house is damaged beyond repair. We helped them go through some of their stuff over the weekend. Just heart breaking, at their age to go through this. Thankfully they have us and a huge network of very kind friends. For us its Day seven with no power running water or heat. Lost some fish since there is no power to the filter and heat. The two little dogs are sick with a cold. They're estimating as of yesterday 10-14 days for us before they bring power back up. To those of you who reached out with so many selfless offers of help, thank you. Your texts, phone calls and emails are awesome and are lifting my spirits. I am sincerely appreciative of your care and kindness. Another day closer to power up and a new beginning.

User Details are only visible to members.	My family on the south shore of NYC still has no power; they are good on gas however, thank God. Their polling station has been changed. If you need to know where your polling station is text...if you can..your address to 877877. Hope this helps.

We definitely know what you're going through, & understand. Know that life goes on, & although you will always remain scarred from this event, you will be a stronger person for having gone through it. Hundreds of runners wearing marathon shirts and backpacks full of supplies took the ferry to hard-hit Staten Island and ran to stricken neighborhoods to help. Thousands of others poured into Central Park to put in 26.2 miles after the official cancellation of the world's largest marathon because of Superstorm Sandy. "A lot of people just wanted to finish what they started," said Lance Svendsen, who organized an alternative marathon called Run Anyway. By 8:45 a.m., his group had sent off five waves of runners from the marathon's official finish line, which had not yet been taken down. "It is amazing. My guess is about 600 people have left so far." It was a throwback to the original New York City Marathon in 1970, which was run ragtag with 127 people and stayed completely within Central Park This time, some dropped off clothing and other supplies for storm victims. Many runners found a way to volunteer for storm victims. On the steps of a statue just outside the park at Columbus Circle, a newly created group called Run4All was collecting donations in cardboard boxes. "A lot of people brought extra clothes," said Gabriella Moreno, 23, from Mexico. She was amazed by the waves of runners but said she understood their drive. On Staten Island, the runners with backpacks emerged from the ferry for a quick, emotional briefing. "The devastation and damage you are about to wander into," said Staten Island resident Jonscott Turco, who paused, almost teary. "It's pretty extraordinary. The only thing I can prepare you for is they're still finding people, remains." The landscape worsened as they approached the waterfront. Shuttered gas stations. Long gas lines, with people asleep in their cars. One man honked and yelled, "There's no marathon! Go home!" But people standing outside one deli yelled encouragement: "Thank you, ladies!" 'God is good"" Near the water, there were no traffic lights and far more sirens. Houses looked like they had been sacked. Furniture was in front yards, washing machines, TVs. But one man came out of his home and asked if the runners had flashlights, and they did. At another house, a family wearing face masks asked for batteries and sweatshirts. They said, "God bless you." The man said, "Let me take your picture." For runner Hana Abdo, the whole scene was striking. When she found out the marathon had been cancelled, "I was almost in tears because I've been training for two years," she said. "But what is two years of my life to somebody's whole life?"

User Details are only visible to members.	now in the aftermath of sandy, there is no gas. at least 2-3 hours to get gas. and only those stations who have power. lines stretch blocks. they also have another line with people with red containers. never thought it of nyc, but i guess things are happening here.

User Details are only visible to members.	As of this writing, my family in Nassau County still has no power. I've sent an e-mail to LIPA to see when they will get to their area. I know someone in Brooklyn who just got their power on. This is a really long haul and the temperatures are supposed to drop tonight. It was 75 degrees down here today. How crazy is that?

As many have their power restored and life returns to a new normalcy, the temperatures will dip to near freezing tonight as we await the arrival of a Nor'easter that could bring us snow. Since the protective dunes have been compromised, there are no barriers to protect that which remains on the barrieer islands from the pounding the surf provides during Nor'easters. Hundreds of families and small retail business owners across NJ, NY and Conn cannot leave their homes and businesses due to the concerns over looting. Families who are living in local shelters face being relocated to areas not near their homes. As per the directive of the Governor who had no other logical choice, students will attend schools in the areas where they are sheltered...not with theif "hometown" classmates. Yet, there is a growing sense of optimism... although mourning the loss of the life they knew and those who lost their lives, attentiion is being focused on rebuilding and the oppoortunities of tomorrow...
