Then the network department got a hold of me full time after I did a laptop programming job. Again self taught, been at the same company 14 years. It couldn't have happened at a better time either, because my husband walked out on me and 3 kids. He said I wouldn't last 6 weeks! He tried like hell to make that happen by not taking the kids.. EVER to this day! Here I am still driving an hour each way to work 14 years later!

Your employer has kept you and has deemed that you make them money... That means that you have a skill which commands a pay greater than minimum wage. (No 10 cents over minimum wage a year isn't a pay raise.) "An employers only obligation should be to make AS MUCH money as possible for the owner or the stockholders. One of the biggest reasons no one has any money to spend on the economy is that they must safe up for when/if they need a trip to the emergency room or other medical care that they don't have coverage for. "Luck has very little to do with anything. You could give multiple people opportunites and some will run with it and make a better life for themselves, and others will blow it!" Luck is factors out of your control and has a great deal to do with it. The employer is having a good day/bad day. The line ahead of you for the job wasn't long or was long... This determines how much time or how much the employer really cares about your advertisment of your skills and line about how you can make them more money... After reviewing 100 applications for the day... The employer/HR department people aren't really going to care about what you have to say. "I know of numerous people who came from families with low incomes that have made it big now. Some of them got themselves a formal education and some did not." All of them were lucky... And if you paid attention to the total number of people you have encountered (who try, who go out and apply to jobs and or other) you will see very few are employed in their fields or even in a job which a college degree commands. You are short sighted because you got yours... You were lucky... many aren't so lucky and in a civilized society, it becomes the obligation of the lucky and wealthy to ensure a civilized society... Medical care is life. If you are going to tell me that a woman must choose between having breast cancer stopped or cutting off her breast... (so to choose the cheaper option... so not to destroy her children's futures) Then you are no more civilized then the people stoning women to death in the middle east. Block me if you wish, I will stand my ground on the fact that I demand a civilized society, not one built upon savagery like what you have just displayed by stating if you can't afford medical coverage die.

User Details are only visible to members.	Robert, I work in IT. I have a degree in Computer Science in Engineering. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the majority of the collegues that I have worked with DID NOT have degrees. They were self-taught. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably either skip college or get a business degree. The other stuff you can teach yourself. The owner of SLS had no formal training in IT. He was a swinger and saw an opportunity and created this website himself from the ground up, teaching himself and learning as he went.

User Details are only visible to members.	Robert, I've worked in IT for 17 years so I know a lot more about it than you do. Experience and certifications mean everything while degrees mean nothing. Of course, we do require that people use the spell check feature occasionally. It might be part of the reason why you can't get your work published.

User Details are only visible to members.	Hey Robert, most of the jobs in IT don't give a damn if you have a college degree or not. And they usually pay pretty decent pay. And the tech sector has a 3.3% unemployment rate compared to the rest of the country.
