"Until then, I work as hard as I am paid."

I think this statement pretty much sums it up. You will never get ahead, get a decent raise or advance farther in any company with that mind set. You are what we refer to as a slacker. Taking any and all opportunities to do absolutely nothing but bitch you aren't paid enough for what little you do. I don't have a college degree. I came from poverty, with little schooling and a divorced mother with a 6 th grade education who taught me the most valuable lesson in life I could learn.....it is up to me and me alone to assure I do not follow in her footsteps and wallow in her her bitterness . Every single job I ever held I started as low man on the totem pole, the most "uneducated" and sometimes with zero experience and I have been promoted in each and every one of them . In several cases to up to manager . You want to know how I do that? I make myself invaluable, I learn every job I can in every single position I possibly can , I make myself flexible. I am dependable. I have a fabulous attitude . I am an excellent trainer. I treat the janitor and the CEO the same with respect and dignity. I give 110 % of myself to any job I am doing whether it is shoveling muck or catering to the filthy rich and I do so with a smile. I am a success story because I expect nothing from others but demand a lot of myself. You should give it a try. There is an old saying"to dress for the job you want , not the job you have " That philosophy extends to your job, work like your job is the most important, life or death matter and you will be noticed, rewarded and promoted. As long as you "work only as hard as you are paid you will always be paid the same. BTW every generation blames the one before. Before your generation people lived through Wars, Famine, the Dust Bowl, Plague, Slavery, Assassination, Holocaust the 60's, Disco , Jonestown , Party Lines and Black and White TV with 3 channels and no remote blah blah blah. Get the fuck over it , your life is 100 times better in so many ways you're just too stupid to appreciate what you have and work harder to get ahead. Society owes you nothing , everything you get from them is a privilege and as far as I can see one you do not deserve. For the record I have sons your age and your mindset is not shared by them. They are achievers, go getters and believe it is a honor to live in the country we do ...with all it's short comings. They are far more concerned with what they can give back to society than what they can take from it.

A quote from your idol, Robert:

"Despair is typical of those who do not understand the causes of evil, see no way out, and are incapable of struggle."

"Block me if you wish, I will stand my ground on the fact that I demand a civilized society, not one built upon savagery like what you have just displayed by stating if you can't afford medical coverage die."

You have the freedom to say whatever you want. As long as you aren't attacking others (and they complain) I won't block/suspend you. And you can say anything you want to me. Trust me, other people have.

Unlike you and most liberals (apparantly), I believe in freedom. The government should STAY OUT of financial matters and the free market will work itself out. There should be no regulation. There should be no minimum wage. Your employer pays you what they think you are worth. If you don't like it, you can ask for more or quit and go elsewhere. If there's nothing in your area then move.

Robert, your way CAN NEVER work. The reality is there simply is not enough resources to go around and save everyone. And the majority of people are not going to work hard just to have their resources taken away from them and distributed to others who did nothing to earn it!

" Either you were exceedingly lucky or you had help."

there is no Luck but that which we make for ourselves through hard work, determination, and keeping our options open. Help can always be found for those willing to seek it.

and on that note, I'm out of here and back to my Dream world, which while not perfect I worked hard to achieve and will continue to work hard to make even more dreamy.

I am also 17 years computer specialist/web developer. I was on yahoo chat when I got a job offer LOL Doing websites sub contract. I taught myself. Then the network department got a hold of me full time after I did a laptop programming job. Again self taught, been at the same company 14 years. It couldn't have happened at a better time either, because my husband walked out on me and 3 kids. He said I wouldn't last 6 weeks! He tried like hell to make that happen by not taking the kids.. EVER to this day! Here I am still driving an hour each way to work 14 years later!

""But all employers paying minimum wage after 1 year are already exploiting their workers, namely their uneducated, now skilled worker."

If someone is uneducated and unskilled, they should be paid accordingly (a low wage)."

After a year of employment, you aren't unskilled anymore... Your employer has kept you and has deemed that you make them money... That means that you have a skill which commands a pay greater than minimum wage. (No 10 cents over minimum wage a year isn't a pay raise.)

"An employers only obligation should be to make AS MUCH money as possible for the owner or the stockholders. In my opinion, employers should not be responsible for health care. If you want healthcare coverage and can afford it, you buy it yourself. If you can't afford it, then you don't get it. "

And the civilized... Oh and uncivilized world says that you are wrong.

One of the biggest reasons no one has any money to spend on the economy is that they must safe up for when/if they need a trip to the emergency room or other medical care that they don't have coverage for.

"Luck has very little to do with anything. You could give multiple people opportunites and some will run with it and make a better life for themselves, and others will blow it!"

Luck is factors out of your control and has a great deal to do with it. The employer is having a good day/bad day. The line ahead of you for the job wasn't long or was long... This determines how much time or how much the employer really cares about your advertisment of your skills and line about how you can make them more money... After reviewing 100 applications for the day... The employer/HR department people aren't really going to care about what you have to say.

"I know of numerous people who came from families with low incomes that have made it big now. Some of them got themselves a formal education and some did not."

All of them were lucky... And if you paid attention to the total number of people you have encountered (who try, who go out and apply to jobs and or other) you will see very few are employed in their fields or even in a job which a college degree commands.

You are short sighted because you got yours... You were lucky... many aren't so lucky and in a civilized society, it becomes the obligation of the lucky and wealthy to ensure a civilized society...

Medical care is life. If you are going to tell me that a woman must choose between having breast cancer stopped or cutting off her breast... (so to choose the cheaper option... so not to destroy her children's futures) Then you are no more civilized then the people stoning women to death in the middle east.

Block me if you wish, I will stand my ground on the fact that I demand a civilized society, not one built upon savagery like what you have just displayed by stating if you can't afford medical coverage die.
