| I guess we are shocked at how many people here in NC still exhibit a great deal of blatant racism in their profiles. It's disheartening to see all the profiles that say "only play in our race". That is horrible. Why is it necessary to say this publicly? Its sad to see this and it makes me grateful for individuals like MLK and the countless other unknown people who made a stand for equality. SLS is such a mixed bag of personalities and beliefs. Good and bad. C'mon people!!!! |

Yes, you are right. She just had an interesting take.
I do think that our beauty standards are becoming healthier and more varied. I hear people that say the opposite, so perhaps it is as much a personal journey. To me, healthy is beautiful, and you SED, are a great example of that. |

I would not take part in a Ms America beauty contest not because of any racism. But because its demeaning to women.

I thought she might have had something wrong, but the idea that woman raised in the backwards hills of Kentucky (not all of Kentucky is that way) at the turn if the century would be aware of discrimination and do her best to stop it and encourage her grand kids to avoid things that might encourage subconscious racism is honorable to me.

No offense to your grandmother, but the KKK did not invent beauty pageants. They've been around longer than the KKK.

we were beginning to think that my son was racist, against white people, when he was younger. he never had a white friend over, always asian or black. he brought a black girl to the prom. growing up in the city here it seems white people are the minority, but i guess we raised him ok because of that.
