Here's a good (probably apocryphal) story about Bertrand Russell......
He was giving a public lecture on astronomy, talking about stars, galaxies, gravity etc... At the end, an old woman stood up and said "What you have told us is rubbish! The world is really a plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise!" He gave a huge smile and asked "Then what, madam, is the tortoise standing on?" "Oh, you're very clever young man" she replied "but it's tortoises all the way down!" |
