I agree completely with your assessment.

Let's assume both sides are correct; We DO need to get our population healthier or we will pay a price as a nation, not being able to compete at the table with nations that are healthier as a whole (lot's of stats, loss of hours, medical costs, social costs, etc). We also don't want to 'mandate behavior', as I agree the outcome is sub-optimal any way you slice it.

Seems neo-cons want to do nothing. I say that's NOT an option for this country.

What's the solution?

Social authoritarianism. A hallmark of the fascism you and I were debating in politics, Ghost...

btw are you the M half or the F half posting on here? Or both? Just curious. In most cases on here I know who I'm talking to, but with you I do not.

"They'll sneak into other people's fridges in the middle of the night and steal carbs :) "

I know that if I lived in Jersey I would buy guns and survival gear. It's going to get ugly with all those Jonesing fat chicks looking for sugar!

"You're completely missing the point. I didn't say you didn't do those things, but I wouldn't DREAM of mandating it on you."

Sed

I know it might make a conservative's head explode but wouldn't a tax on drinks like this, dedicated to teaching and supporting healthy choices be a better way to affect the issue?

You could still get what you wanted, you would just be contributing to the outsized costs to society your poor eating habits create.

Just a thought

"I think you mean masses, not messes, Sed."

Just ban sugar and bad fat. Problem solved. Get rid of it, completely!

Yay! More taxes!

Since poor people eat way more sugar than everyone else, I'm sure it'll be a civil rights case...

There will be fat chicks on street corners next to the prostitutes looking for a fix.
