I would think the low humidity of Arizona makes for zero fruit flies.
I wish I had limes this year. Squirrels took them all :( but they never touch the key limes. |

Here's the deal. Or am I spoiling the fun of wondering? oh well.
I have a lime tree in my yard now. But since living in Arizona, I've had as many as 5 orange trees and a lemon tree that would produce at least 1200 lemons a season. I never get fruit flies. They are attrached to ripe fruit. They take about 8 days to hatch. The fruit in the stores have been coated with wax and are picked days prior to you getting them home. The eggs of the fruit flies are sometimes already on the fruit and under the wax so they have time to gestate and hatch. On a side note, I love going out and picking a lime to use right then. Nothing better! |

Right?!! lol
I picture them living quietly somewhere watching my every move and know when I walk away! Then someone the other day told me they come out of the fruit!!! I was like, Omg, Wahtd'ya mean??!! ....I'm not even googling that! There's a special place I can go to for this kind of wonder, and if that is true, maybe we could just make believe its not. lol |

lol
And it seems that barriers which normally keep out other insects (such as walls) seem to have no noticeable effect at keeping them out either. |

I know our most used JW was deleted, but can't find the one's that were started after that... I wonder too much and had enjoyed seeing others wonders, so thought it might be nice to have back.
JW: Where do fruit flies come from? And how do they come so fast?? I walk out of the kitchen and come back and there they are! How do they know???? lol |
