TotalBabe,

Lost me on the chemistry of it all. I will go by the fact that it works. I submit to those who have more knowledge on the why and go with their suggestions.

Thanks

Sophia, you are welcome, and I do hope it works for you! Or better yet, I hope you won't have to test that on yourself.

I think it has to do with the venom being acidic, (hey, wasn't that formic acid in ants' venom? Lol), and of course, bleach is very, very alkaline, so it neutralizes the acid that the insect deposited into the bite site.

However, whether that is the mechanism or not, all I know is that it works.

TotalBabe,

I am gonna try the bleach thing the next time I get stung by something. Thanks for the tip.

I used to get that shit all the time when I was a kid. Not so much now as an adult since I have better things to do with my time than to crawl around in the woods all day. Not to mention that in the rare event I do get it now, I'm much more disciplined when treating it and don't scratch as much. As a kid, I'd be covered from head to toe within 72 hours.

PS...I don't ever recommend getting poison ivy on your dick. So should anyone ever get poison ivy, for god's sake.....wash your hands before you piss and wear gloves.

I am allergic to latex, can ya guess how I found that one out?

I have seasonal allergies.

I have chronic hives. I have to take a particular allergy medicine and a particular heartburn medicine everyday to treat the hives or I itch like a ..... every day.

The red blotches I get when something irritates my skin...like a purse strap, watch, putting my hands in a pocket, and other things causes folks to think I have been whipped or beaten with something.

But take my little allergy and heartburn pills twice a day and I still get seasonal allergies. Go figure.

I thought I didn't have any allergies, until I was stung by a yellow fly (horse fly) and ants.

Thankfully, applying bleach to the bite ASAP usually works. :)

I am immune to poison ivy. I have a brutal period of seasonal allergies in mid-spring.

"I swear, I think that I am the only person in North America that has zero allergies."

As far as I know, the only things I've ever had any allergic reaction to is poison ivy and stupid people.

Not allergic to any meds, food, plastic/rubber/latex, outdoors, animals, or any of the other usual suspects.
