My parents had a 1980-something Sundance that I drove for a while when I was a teenager. That thing was such a piece of crap. The car would NOT hold a steady speed. It would go slower slower slower slower... so your foots on the floor... and then vroooooooooom... you'd spend your highway time going back and forth between 50 and 70 mph. It drove other drivers crazy.

My parents gave me 1990 Plymouth Sundance in a shocking blue color with a personalized rainbow airbrushed front license plate. In college, we renamed it the Snowdance because that little beauty plowed through snow better than cars three times its weight.

I drove it until 1999 when I arrived at a job interview sweaty and disheveled because the air conditioning was shot and we couldn't afford to fix it. I told the interviewer why I looked like hell and said the first thing I was going to do if I got the job was buy a new car. I did.

VA the "tank" would bust a master cylinder about once a year. Always while going down an incline with a stop sign or light at the bottom.

Oh I gotta tell you this....

We once had a 1983 Dodge Aries. It broke down underneath a parking gate, which reset after about 5 minutes and karate-chopped the car for maybe 15 minutes while everyone laughed.

One time, I bellyflopped it into a flooded intersection after a heavy storm. Unbeknownst to me, the floor boards had completely rotted away, the carpet tore open at my feet, and a FREEZING cold torrent of water about 15 inches across flooded up into my face. EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in the car was completely soaked in freezing cold water. The windows instantly fogged and I couldn't see shit out the windows of our now water-filled car.

1965 Mercury Comet. No power steering, no power breaks. I had it for only 6 months.

Then I had Mercury Zypher for about 2 months before I totaled it.

Then I bought a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe. Tahoe Turquois, 289 HO. Black leather interior. Put a Holly 650 on it, with some Hooker headers and the rest was stock. it wasn't the fastest car around, but it was pretty bad ass. Had it for about 15 years.

Mine was a 1982 Ford Escort. The thing used to be a court services vehicle so it had incredibly high city mileage, a clutch as soft as a pillow, shot rear shocks so that EVERYONE coming the other direction thought I had my highbeams on and flashed their lights at me, a leak in the gas tank so that anything more than 1/2 a tank = 1/2 a tank very soon, a tinny shit box radio, a heater that took 30 minutes to warm up....

What a piece of shit. It was funny as hell. The brakes failed one night driving home from class. I drove it 10 miles with no brakes. Thank God it was a stick and I could gear down.

I like to say that some of our funniest stories revolve around shitty old cars. Nice new cars don't usually make for funny stories.

My first car was a 1974 Chevy Impala. The thing was a block long and had a backseat like a sofa. 350 4 barrel. I loved that car.
