Original Starting post for this thread:
So who here places a great deal of attention to detail to the creative things you do? For example in a book where two characters are playing a game of chess against each other and discussing something important to the plot.

Would you play out the entire chess match, so to ensure every move you write is correct and any fan who plays the game backwards finds that the pieces can all be played from where you started the scene?

I just covered 18 turns or 36 moves... Wrote each down on a note. Of course only the last six turns are even mentioned.

Do you give such attention to detail in the things you do?

Chou:

The problem with writing in errors is that it makes you seem like you didn't spend the time to ensure that there isn't any errors... Even if you make it known that it was intentional.

The field is simply unforgiving that way. It is why some of the better authors have made friends with math experts who can help them with doing the math equations seem real.

Science fiction is exceptionally unforgiving.

I'd intentionally write in an invalid move just to see if the readers are paying attention.

This is more of an answer to your question than you probably realize, Robert.

Have you ever heard of Demetri Martin? Stand up comedian?

I'll bet you'd love his "If I" routine.

Part 1 here; the rest follow. When you have about 50 minutes to kill.
