We had the Noon whistle.. in fact we still do! I remember growing up on the farm we had a large dinner bell mounted on the outside of the house and when dinner was done mom rang it 3 or 4 times.

It was a race to the house because i have two brothers that could eat a horse by themselves.

There was a factory outside of town that we could hear their 5:00 whistle and then heard cars in the distance for about 15 minutes. These days the 5:00 whistle is the noise the door makes when my employees whisk through it!

We had a 12 noon siren. It was from the days when everyone worried about air raids. The siren still sounds. If we go back to the old neighborhood and are there at noon we'll hear it.

Growing up I remember the local volunteer fire company testing the siren only once a week. I think it was Monday at 7:00pm. You could set your watch to it.

I remember when a siren used to go off every day at noon, but no 5:00 pm whistle.

We didn't have a 5pm whistle in our area. But, we did have a 9pm whistle. If you were under the age of 16, when you heard this whistle, you knew it was time to get inside (curfew time). That stopped a long time ago.

No can't say that I remember that. Could be that it never happened in my environment. "J"

Just one of those "old" memories that came to mind today, when I heard the fire sirens go off today at work.I asked Tracey if she remembered it(we grew up within a mile of ea. other)We had a good laugh about it.
