Original Starting post for this thread:
Saw samples of hardwood floors. What I noticed with this style of wood floor the glue was also a moisture barrier to be spread on a concrete slab? Any experience with this style ?If so how did the wood floor hold up? Any spots of moisture come through the wood floor from the concrete?
I have always laid down a vapor barrier before putting wood floor in the past.

We did have wood floors until our middle daughter fell out of bed and broke her collar bone.We instantly went to a thick padding and carpet.Girls, who knew they could not sleep in a bed without falling

chose not to use the liquid base moisture barrier.
Did choose putting 4 mil plastic as a mositure barrier with 3/4 inch thick wood floor. On the backside the base had rubber backing.298 square feet in less then 4 hours. What a breeze.
Toughest part serperating the tile floor from the wood floor .Whch was on diagonal angle.Looks great ,feels great.Relatively inexpensive
The harest part ,the damn cleanup.

The worst thing about putting wood directly down on concrete, after the moisture problems, is that it still will be nearly hard as concrete. Who wants that? Float the floor on sleepers. Or put down laminate flooring with a built-in pad or a separate pad if it doesn't come with built-in. At least then there is some disconnect with the concrete. And know your basement or slab. If there has ever been any leakage, fix it first. On grade slab floors usually only suffer from humidity induced moisture, which will be greatly reduced by putting down the floor.

bostic makes a liquid you float over the concrete slab which is suppose to take the place of a vapor barriers.Like all items relatively new the old timers really are not sold on this way of installing. The factory will put on a thirty year warranty against moisture coming through..
We chose the old way ,starting this weekend

We've done many engineered wood-over-concrete floors. They must float as they expand and contract with ambient temperature and humidity. DO NOT glue them down directly on the slab! Further, if you ever need to repair a board or two in the future, you won't be able to easily do so! Always use a barrier or put down a plywood underlayment.

Expo,

I installed about 650 ft2 of Bruce hardwood flooring on top of underlayment using an adhesive. This probably isn't much help to you, but try googling various manufacturers of hardwood and hardwood laminates and see if they have a comprehensive DIY section. I did this on Bruce's website and it had a LOT of helpful information, even for the type of installation you're looking at.

Good luck!
