Mrs Sav, Nice slip, I'm sure it was completely by accident. ;)

Cum, Only if it includes tickets.

Sure there are NFL rivalries, such as Packers/Vikings, Giants/Cowboys, Jets/Patriots, and lots more. The sports radio talk shows talk about them nearly 1 day before the game to about 2 days after the games. But college rivalries dwarf NFL. Look at Michigan/Ohio State, Alabama/Auburn (this is a great one but I mentioned this one just for you Mrs Sav), Texas/Oklahoma, and zillions more. Big college football rivalries are discussed before, during, and long after the season not to mention off season picnics, bbq's, sports bars, ... I love them all.

Hey, Toledo, this may be a potential subject for a new thread - "College football rivalries including your reason". But the reason has to be limited to 16 or so words. And the number of words really has to count, such as "The University of Texas at Austin" counts for 6 of the 16 words. Think about this suggestion, Toledo, and refine it the way you do best. By the way, I think Toledo should become SLS's official ambassador for college football. Any thoughts?

I like a good rant. I appreciate the passion. But, what UM and OSU did in the past means nothing today. Hell, Oberlin College beat OSU 7-6 in 1921. I don't think that matters today. Anyway, I stand by what I said before. I guess this will all be settled 11/24/12.

"When it is all said and done my the best teams win."

Clearly my subconscious has other ideas , note my use of the word MY instead of may lol.

When it is all said and done my the best teams win. Bama may be at number 1 currently but trust we understand that just means they will have to work harder to stay there. The season just start, there will be lots of surprises to come I am sure. On any given day, at any given time, with any given team it's always a toss up.

Eagle, I'm not upset, that was just me getting warmed up. I haven't been on a good rant in awhile.

Cum4, One of my pet peeve's is when people say that Lloyd Carr left Rich Rod nothing to work with. My immediate reply: Ryan Mallett. I like Hoke because he doesn't want to reinvent the wheel. Go back to the days of 300+lb lineman and Michigan defense winning games.

Sav, I'm college football, till basketball season. I don't like pro football either, college is where it's at. The rivalry here in Toledo is pretty intense between UofM and OSU. Toledo sits at the northwest tip of OH, i'm less than 45mins from the Big House. Also, Toledo was originally a part of Michigan and that has always fanned the fires especially hot here.

U of Michigan is 5th in NCAA school history for number of NFL games played by its alums -- after Notre Dame, Southern Cal, Penn St., and Ohio St.

But Tom Brady is the only great NFL quarterback EVER who was a Wolverine? After him, you have Jim Harbaugh, Brian Griese, Elvis Grbac ...

And Brady was the 199th pick in the draft, in 2000 ?

Cum4,

I agree college football is huge, I personal detest Pro football and find it bores me to death. That being said I spent 12 years living in Minnesota (where I met Mr Sav) and college football although popular is nothing like it is here. They're all Viking/ Packer fanatics lol. College football doesn't even come close to that rivalry. Here in Bama I hear talk of college football year round, from the young and old, men and women . When meeting someone new the 2nd questioned asked after ones name is Bama or Auburn? It is quite different than my experiences in any of the other parts of the US I have lived.

Mrs. Sav, You're correct that college football is a passion in the south, but it is also a passion in the midwest and far west as well. I read a statistic some time ago that when University of Oklahoma plays a home game in Norman, the population of Norman soars so much that it becomes the most populated city in the state for that day. That's incredible!

As for Michigan, Rich Rodriguez never got the backing from Michigan alumni and ended up being a dismal failure in Ann Arbor. Brady Hoke has to play with the players he inherited from Rich Rodriguez era. Let's give Brady Hoke another year or two to get his own team together. So for now, we'll just say Go Blue. Soon we will be able to shout GO BLUE!
