So, you're getting older, and like many of us, you gotta pee, ALL the time. You wake up at night, miss parts of movies and are sick of this situation! What to do about it? Let's discuss it here.

User Details are only visible to members.	so ..... what if you still wake up 2 or 3 times during your sleep cycle to urinate, pee every hour, still urinate with good pressure and volume (yes I measure and track my output, 'cept during my sleep cycle, just not how many times I got up), good color. no enlarged prostate, neg for diabetes and certain cancers...... I piss like a race horse every hour during my waking hours. Cut the caffeine til it was almost non existent (just enough to keep from getting a headache) drink about 200 oz (old habit from the Airforce and the Army) of water a night (day sleeper) and wake up atleast twice to pee. seen a urologist and had my first prostate exam yesterday when I went in for my CDL physical (not required, but I requested it) and have been screened for prostate and bladder cancer due to blood in my urine at my last physical.... nothing. My Doctor says sometime there is just blood in your pee and since blood has been present for every physical since I was 13 he said not to worry about it.... but since prostate cancer, congestive heart failure, and diabetes runs in the family I am concerned about it.

User Details are only visible to members.	If that is the case, you really need to see an internist. Frequent urination isn't just a symptom of BPH, but could also be symptomatic of actual prostate cancer, diabetes, and/or kidney problems (and God-knows-what-else). Don't self-diagnose!

User Details are only visible to members.	Thanks for the concerns everyone. Yes, I've been examined by a doctor. I've also had a stress test and colonoscopy this year (damn Dr. OZ). Those were the two best days of my life ;-)

Coming from a nursing stand point.....to many people try to get a diagnosis thru online assistance, which leads to self diagnosises, which lead to many preventable medical complications. A simple thing as frequent urination can be a symptom of something more medically complicated. As a nurse, I highly recommend that you listen to the Doc below me! Call your PCP and go into see him! Good luck!

User Details are only visible to members.	From a physician... Frequent urination can have many causes. BPH is one of them. Diabetes is another. Polyuria (the medical term for frequent urination) needs to be medically evaluated. A senior physician in the heartland who is chief medical officer of a university medical center decided that self-diagnosis was smart and decided he had BPH. He ended up in his own ER in diabetic ketoacidosis. Nearly killed him. At least it wasn't neglected prostate cancer. Assertions that all physicians are (a) just trying to make money, (b) risk averse or (c) are closed to alternative or complementary medicine collectively reflect a prejudice that is inconsistent with the general tenor of this site. Most of us get up in the morning intending to use our knowledge to help patients. Most days, we do just that. FL+----

User Details are only visible to members.	Its true...but for men in their 40s and up esp....the prostate should be checked whenever these types of issues occur. Men HATE prostate exams. But they very well may save someone's life :0).

I also agree with Webmaster that doctors, especially specialists, throw pills at patients, and tend to not look deeper into a health issue when it is not resolved. Heck, I would pay their regular fee stead of the little copay, if they would just do their job.
