Turns out, her grandfather died that night and her mom was desperately trying to reach her. I lived in a cabin way back in the woods with only a long footpath for access and E would not let me walk her out in the morning (through the knee deep rotting snow - April!). When I did go out, about an hour after E left, I found her car still at the road! I drove mine to where she was working, thinking that crazy gal might have hitched and I could give her a ride. when I got there, her co-worker asked me where she was. Apparently the whole town knew she had slept over b/c of the grandfather incident. Turns out she had gotten lost in the woods, but I found her. God, I love that woman!
