Positive outcomes are rare in marital splits. It takes a lot of good will and restraint on both sides just to minimize the damage. I am pleased that all my sons work for me and enjoy spending time with me during the ski season. Apparently I did not alienate them completely.

I was very close to a guy that I thought had a similar dynamic with his ex. He told me when I first met him that after several years of trying to keep it together, he finally realized he could be a good dad to his kids without being married to their mom. I thought he was a really good dad, too, I'm still trying to figure out what changed....

My ex was born on Valentines day, exactly fifty years ago. We were high school sweethearts and made three wonderful boys together. She is a wonderful mother. We are still married to this day and business partners as well. We have been living separately for almost four years, but I still like and love her very much.
