RabbitnBunny...

Fitness does not require a gym. A gym merely allows you to circumscribe a place and a time and equipment. What is important, however, is that you work fitrness into your daily routines and do so in away that you want to do it, and ultimately you have to do it.

Make no mistake--it is work. (That's why they're called 'workouts' not 'funouts'...) But it certainly can be done, especially in the outdoors suring California summers. Good luck and keep us posted.

PolyGrl is correct...

Most DM Ty2 can be effectively managed with exercise and weight loss. If not reversed, then progression can be arrested. This is extrmely important to younger people with DM, since once the diagnosis is made, the remaining lifespan is reduced by about a factor of 1/3. For example, if the diagnosis is made at age 35 and the normal lifespan is 80, the lifespan is reduced to about 65 unless the disease is arrested/reversed.

that sounds like a good idea to use their child as a motivator but if I think that if it would have motivated him prior to or after the birth of you child he would be at the gym. Your husband has to want to make a change otherwise weight loss is not long lasting. However, I do agree whatever it takes to start making a change to become healthier --do it --, but it must come from him. Because the motivators he develops will be what gets him to go to the gym.

If anything tell him he might not be around to see his child graduate high school. It wouldnt' take too long to get him in shape, I've trained far worse in my career. Get him to start changing his diet, which is 80% of your lifestyle in the gym, weights and cardio are the other 20%. He'll feel better in just few short weeks if not sooner. Start him slowly just doing cardio at the gym and get him eventually into a circuit program. I've heard every excuse in the book about not wanting to go to the gym. It has to be somethig important for him, get him motivated, use your child to do it.

On "valid excuses"...

The problem is one of priority. It only works when you plan your life to include the gym. Me, I get up at 0445 to be at the gym at 0515. My wife thinks I'm crazy. She, on the other hand, goes to the gym 12 hours out of phase, 5 pm-6 pm. I think she's nuts. But we have shared gym dates on Sat and Sun.

If we can find the time, so can others...

because they have VERY valid excuses. I have friends that belong to the same gym that I do and I never see them there. Every once in awhile I will but most of the time there is an excuse. What I hate the most is their comment I am trying to lose weight but it doesn't seem to be working. DUH, I wonder why...lol

I don't go to the gym as I'm doing my part to keep social security solvent!
