I'm 5' 2" 160 pounds. Yes I have a bit to lose and work out everyday. I see "hwp" a lot and I don't know what exactly that means besides height weight proportionate.

Mo B MI is for average people not body builders. When i was 195 i was considered overweight on all the charts but i was playing ball in college..err trying to i should say. had a 30 inch waist. today i am 160 with a 31 inch waist and a 43 inch chest and still score right on the BMI.

The same hold true for all those blood pressure machines. For average arms. If you have muscle in your arm you will be ten points high on the top measurement. Skinny arms ten points low on both measurements.

you are just not an average person.

Uh...no the BMI is NOT accurate in our context, except in hit or miss circumstances. Perhaps more with women than men. The caveat is muscle mass. At 6'2" and 195, I am "overweight" at a BMI of 25....borderline overweight (see my photos, throw in that one can see my abs clearly). When I was more muscular, with 10 to 15 lbs or more muscle, I was 6'2" and 210 lbs. % body fat was 8 to 12% when I "dieted down." BMI then? 27....even more overweight.

So respectfully, you are flat out wrong to state BMI is "accurate" as a broad statement. It's helpful in the massive weight loss community, after gastric bypass, weight loss on one's own, etc, as a comparative model in the process of losing weight, and for patients with high % body fat (esp 30% plus).

Do. Not. Doubt me.

Use the BMI charts. This is an easy way to know if you are HWP. And yes BMI is accurate.

omigosh some blasts from the past in here. whatever happened to toomuchfun and yondude? fun people to be sure.

OnT: yeah, i am a middle aged slightly overweight mom. i am fit (thanks in large part to my love of cardio) but even at my lightest (in the high 150’s) i am still considered overweight by most of the medical profession.

my ob and my primary care dr both say “piffle” to the BMI measurement. as demonstrated by all the mighty fit and fine looking gentlemen— BMI is bizarrely misleading.

so too can pics be.

best bet? meet in person at events. i am fortunate enough to live in an area where plenty of events with offsite (meaning no immediate pressure to play) dancing and mingling are scheduled on an pngoing basis. this allows me and my love to mingle flirt and chat, and then decide. we always end the night with each other so no big loss if (as so often happens) the people on the other end of the profile(s) have outdated and/or inaccurate pics/descriptions.

To address the initial question (I haven't read the thread in its entirety), there is some subjectivity. And an exact number for a "best" weight to height ratio is inexact, as a caveat. But this is important to me, for example, and is a rough notion that men and women are close to the ideal weight that one would be for their height. . . How to identify it? Well, a politician decades ago said once that he couldn't define porn, but knew it when he saw it. Likewise, I guess I'd say "I know HWP when I see it." An kind of humorous example of being outside of this would be my scrolling over a profile (today, even), where the lady listed herself as "5'7" and 119 lbs." Now I would consider this a bit thin (not bad, but under) as opposed to 'HWP." I like this look, so this would be an attraction to me.

BUT....their public photo was of her lying arse up on a bed. And no, no, no, this lady was not 119 lbs. if she is 5'7". She was more like 145 to 150. Now I can tell absolute height less well from such a photo than weight, so maybe she was or was not 5'7", but she is not both 5'7: and 119 lbs., I assure you. I can fairly easily tell when a photo does not jibe with a lady's listed height/weight, so I'm not sure why she tries to fool anyone, when the deception is purposeful.

This speaks to honesty with these numbers...another topic perhaps, but peripherally connected here nonetheless.

But to summarize, to me it's basically someone being at or close to their ideal weight for their height, with allowances creating a range rather than an exact number, based on muscle mass, etc. For example, BMI is of little worth here, as I am technically "overweight" (BMI 25) b/c BMI does not take into account muscle mass as a factor or weight to height. Not helpful, really.

HWP is not a requirement, but rather an attraction, their attitude and personality. While some may have a "type" they are attracted to, I don't think I have a "type" that applies. I usually like a man that has a few extra lbs :)

Well...we are our profile....flexible,easy to talk to and not pushy. We have had compliments from couples saying how refreshing it was meeting people that really matched their profile and pictures. I guess there are some people that are just that cut n dry. Oh Well......

@ zak: i would take sweetcoco's advice: be proud of who you both are. don't allow 3 letters to intimidate you from approaching a couple whom you otherwise think would be a good/compatible match!

costs nothing to send the message--if they don't reply, don't sweat it, move on, and keep attending events. best to keep as many irons in the fire as possible to increase your chances. it all takes time.

@njny....you are right, I did not mean for it to sound like dictating its just we get frustrated when we feel that we have met so many of the preferences in a couples profile even matching their own height & weight only to come across the "please be HWP". That statement just sounds like they are not willing to be flexible at all.

I have met and had the best times with guys that would not be considered HWP nor would I ever expect to make a connection with, but I have learned there is always more to someone than a pretty face or smile. Be yourself and be proud of who you are and present that confidence that this is who I am and you either take it or leave it ..........
