Since finally clearing my cold a couple of weeks back I've been back in the gym every day. Alternating arm day/leg day, about an hour beginning at 6 or so. I've reached the point where it's routine to the point where it's easy and my body is raring to get in there and go. Woo hoo!

There will always be burpees. It's a movement that EVERYONE can do so it helps with Open participation. It's easy to do correctly, and doesn't require special equipment. And at least a 50% chance one workout from 2013 will repeat in 2014 (I'm thinking CJ + T2B ladder). If Dave Castro holds to form, the last WOD will be another variation of Thrusters C2B pullups (keeps making a harder and harder version of Fran every year).

Movements you will not see in the Open:

running (can't tape, verify distance); rowing (not everyone has a rower); rope climbs (most garage gyms don't have ropes, hard to verify height); kettlebell swings(significant controvery at a Regional event with judging/excessive no reps).

New this year: if you think you might qualify for Regionals, better video tape every Open WOD you do. If you are in Masters and expect to finish top 200 in your division, video tape every Open WOD you do. And then if you are in the top 200, will have additional WODs to do (video taped) during Easter week to determine the final top 20 in each division going to the Games.

Don't expect to do as well this year compared to last. Training has been hampered by spinal stenosis bursitis issues (no workout in two weeks) and I have lost a lot of upper body strength/stamina. My pushups sucked tonight.

Hey guys,

Interesting article analysingthe CF Open from the past 3 years. Basically snatch, burpee, thruster, pull-up and jerk (in that order)account for over 50% of the points followed by T2B, BJ, DU, WB and MU.

The Open has only used 14 different movements as compared to the Games which have used 51.

"~~Must stay uninjured. Always an issue at this age. "

Tell me about that. And yes to being comfortable doing lots of burpees.

My secret? Volleyball knee pads!

Work on snatch, clean, press, chest-to-bar pullups, toes-to-bar, wall balls, double unders, box jumps, dead lifts, overhead squats.

But I'll bet you'll do great! If you're on top of it, make sure to video your WODs in case you make top 200 in your age group - cause then you're part of the new virtual regional they are doing this year for the Masters.

Fingers crossed. Got to cut back on the strength training and double up on the cardio for the next 6 weeks. Can't do well without doing lots of burpees. ugh

Must stay uninjured. Always an issue at this age.

2nd place (masters) in a local CF competition today. First place was a games athlete from last year. Just a few seconds apart on two of the workouts. He killed me on deadlift though. Good day.
