I should qualify this by saying that this is not one of those machines where you simply press on the pedals.

this is a machine where your entire body moves when you press, so it's as close as I have found without using the smith machine to a full on squat with weights, except the weights are not on your shoulders

my normal press on this machine without any build up is 90 pounds that's the course strength in my legs

as previously stated, my concern is not how much weight I can press, but how well I can press it and the results that I see. and, I'm seeing results… so it works for me

with all due respect, VA, i've rarely seen anyone press twice their weight and those that i have seen do it are usually dedicated muscle heads.

the human legs are 60% of our body weight...which means the torso is 40% of or body weight. so to your analogy of pressing being more or less the equuvalent of standing up: i press roughly 175% of my upper body weight when i press 110 lbs. could i do more? sure if i wanted to do minimal reps and only one press position. but i do 3 sets, usually 13 to 15 reps, in squat, plié, and sumo position, to hit as many angles as i can.

it has been my observation that the majority of women regularly press 60 lbs or thereabouts. i don't lift for bulk or brute strength. my goal is lean, functional strength. 110 is the highest i have pressed on this machine.

NJ

I mean this in the very nicest of ways - but you are likely much stronger than being able to leg press just 100 pounds. That's the equivalent of simply standing up (if you weighed 100 lbs). Most people can press at least twice their own weight.

omigawrsh I absolutely *must* remember that the total leg program sucks eggs. what a slog and after 50 minutes of that, at just over 330 calories, the 30 minutes of treadmill hills at just over 290 calories tells me next time i accidentally hit total leg instead of glute camp and lose 8 minutes to the build/warm up? just. start. over.

yeeeeeshhh. now i am gonna go press 110 lbs instead of 100 cause that was just frustrating.
